Re: Honda Tech and Ridge owner here to help.

HondaTech,

I don't generally watch my gauges too closely, but I have come to learn the idle rpm which generally sits just above the dash between 0 and 1000. During start up, the truck warms up at 1100-1200 rpms.

Since Saturday visit to Home Depot, once the truck warms up, the rpms are staying right at the 900-1000 range and will not drop down to 700rpm range like before??

One other thing to point out that I remember was when I got to my driveway, which dips and goes up an incline, the truck's rpms dropped and sounded like it would cut off and bounced back up again.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

Re: Honda Tech and Ridge owner here to help.

HT, ChrisM, or Shovelhd,

Update after a week. My truck warms up as usual ~1200 rpms. After 5-6 minutes it drops to about 900-950 and stays there. If I turn off the truck after driving for 10-15 minutes and start it again after 2-3 minutes it drops down to 700 and stays there. However, if I stop the truck again and start up, it will go back to 900-950 again.

I have been told bad gas, partially stock throttle, ecu, etc.. by friends and family..

I added high test gas today at a different station to see if this corrects anything. I have a dealership appointment next week if things don't get better, but they said without a code there probably isn't anything wrong. They indicated 900rpms sounded fine. I did take a picture this afternoon on my cell showing idle at ~700rpms. After I turned the truck off again.. back to 900 again.

Any ideas based on the fact that the truck will change idles when warm and the truck is turned off and back on again?

Thanks a lot,

Drew

Re: Honda Tech and Ridge owner here to help.

WELL I just bought my Ridgeline last night... This morning sitting at the red light I open my window and heard some severe engine tapping. Drove to honda and they informed me that on the 08's that the 3.5L V6 have been having valve issues... Anyone else get his problem? Should I raise more hell??

I have an 08 RTX, and I have yet to experience any knocking. HT would be the best resource for this question. I can't imagine why the 3.5 in 08 would be different from any other year. If I'm not mistaken, it's the same mill??

don't believe everything a dealership tells you. They also tell you that you need to ignore the Maintenance Minder and get oil changes every 3-4k miles (which is horribly wrong) among a lot of extra service you don't need.

Have you had a Honda before? My '08 Accord (3.5L V6) has slight ticking as did my Ridge as did my '07 Civic, which the Civic was the loudest

Re: Honda Tech and Ridge owner here to help.

Some slight tapping noise from the engine is normal. I have not heard of any issues with valves. The 3.5L has remained basically the same since it's first use in the '99 Ody. In '02 it got an intake redesign, and several other features have been added or changed, but the internals have stayed the same.

If it is just a very minor noise - most noticeable at idle, it's probably normal.

Check your oil level.

Re: Honda Tech and Ridge owner here to help.

No I have never had a honda before. I used to be a proud owner of a 02 Nissan Frontier. The first thing I did was check the oil level. It is full and quite clean. It actually almost knocks as much as a Diesel... The tech was even surprised and said there was a recent bulletin put out about the valve issue that would take about 3hrs to fix. So i guess that I just got a faulty Ridgeline... UUGH!
