Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

Just happened to me today. 6900 miles on it. Down to about 3/8 tank of gas which means the fill up was last week. I guess I'll wait and see if it shuts off by itself.

Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

Hey,
I talked to the dealer today about the same issue. Mine's been on for over a week now. He told me that it takes about a week to go off with normal driving. But, if you're like me, then you drive less than average. So it may take up to two weeks for it to go off.

Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

Total BS if you ask me, there is a ISSUE with honda, not the cap.

Mine just started this at 19K miles and likes to come and go at will.

My Ford has 10 yrld cap and NEVER has the light come on. Will take it in for a fix next week, BEST not give me some lame excuse like the Honda Tech on here.

The chime could drive a sane man INSANE !!!!!!!!!!!

SICK OF ALL THE LITTLE ISSUES WITH THIS TRUCK !!!!

Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

Lame excuse? The customer is the one who failed to tighten the gas cap. They are the cause of the problem, not Honda, not the cap. The cap on your Ford truck probably was left a little loose numerous times. The difference is that the Ford system is not as sensitive and no able to detect very small vapor leaks from the gas cap area. Honda being ever conscience of emissions implemented a system that can detect very small leaks. This means when the gas cap is just a little loose there is fuel vapor escaping the tank and into the atmosphere. An emission.

Tighten the cap every fill up.... all the way tight - you can't overtighten it.
You will never get the fuel cap warning light.

The problem is the user, not the equipment.

Day 4 and apporx 20 starts and the message is still on. I'll give it until the weekend before I take it in.

Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

Hi,

There has got to be more to this then simply dismissing it as user error. Whats the line about all being bozo's on this bus, but this isnt rocket science and I have no difficulty properly closing the fuel cap. I also generally pump the gas in our family and our 2006 Odyssey has never done this. I understand that it may be a different vehicle, but my refueling routine is similar.

Mine has never happened at refueling, and I can confirm that the cap isnt cross threaded and the gasket and filler pipe are in good condition and smooth, and that if the manual says for instance give the cap 5 clicks, then Ive been giving it 100 to make sure its tight.

I wouldnt have replied to this thread except that its happened several times and currently have had the message for 3 days now starting at about a 1/4 tank. Fortunately I have only about a 5 mile commute (should be on a bicycle), but that does mean lots of engine starts between fill ups if that is a factor.

My plan is to wait for it to go off as a normal course, and if the problem becomes really persistant then have the dealer check it out well before my warranty expires. Isnt there some sort of extended warranty on some emissions related items anyway? I do appreciate all the technical insight from everyone!
