Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

I experienced the same situation. Eventually the Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Alarm stopped after twenty or so cancellations by myself. Shortly after the Warning Alarm stopped, an Emission Alarm came on. When I went to the dealer for my second oil change, I did not tell them about those two items. They cancelled the Emission Alarm but it came back on after I left the dealership. I returned, and told them 1) the Emission Alarm was back on and 2) about the Fuel Cap Warning Alarm cancellation problems. They hooked up their analyzer and found that the Fuel Cap is defective. They have one on order for me ( warantee) . The Fuel Cap Warning Alarm has come on twice in about a month since the problem was found.

Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

just to close the loop:

After 5 days my check fuel warning went off without my ever opening the fuel door. The tank was below half when it first came on. On two previous occacions I did remove and replace the cap, but I'm certain it was never loose to begin with.

Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

I have come to believe that I know how to pump gas, and while in college even did so for a living. My Tighten Fuel Cap warning has been on for a while, and has now graduated to the yellow engine warning light. I know I tighten the cap, and my Oddy has never had a problem. I suspect the sensor. Well, back to the dealer.

I had the fuel cap changed yesterday at no charge. I trust your problem will end with the same result....new feul cap, problem gone and Honda takes care of it for you in all respects.!!

Good luck........

Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

I have experienced this problem on several occasions. I have 6K miles on the truck now and the problem is much less frequent. I have brought the truck in to service and explained the problem but they reset the computer and cannot find any problems. I have found that the computer will reset itself after a short time. I have also experience that the problem is more common in damp weather. Again, the problem was much more fequent in the early miles (0 - 5K) and has reduced since. Hope this is helpful.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem
i had this problem, it is an old thread i do see that and the easiest thing was to do was to go to a dealer, they reset it and it was free(under warrenty) and just easy!

No need to take it back to dealer unless it stays on over a week. In the other Thread about this same problem I posted it happen twice in a year each time it went out the same day. The first time the cap was checked to see if was tight. The second time I was sure the cap was tight & the message cleared by itself the same day.

Re: Tighten Fuel Cap Warning Light Stays On

I just bought mine yesterday at second start-up today the messages appears. I verified the cap and understand it may take a while to reset/verify.

If you press 'reset' (just to get rid of the messages for however long it stays off) do tou reset anything other than just this message ?

thanks

That really says a lot for the JERSEY idiots!!!!! Require me to use a PUMPJOCKEY that can't replace a fuel cap correctly. The WISEGUYS ain't that wise..(guess the locals need to understand flammable liquids before they commit their first ARSON FOR HIRE job ) God Bless The South and TEXAS
