$140 to change Cabin filter ???? Aftermarket ??

So I was getting the tranny TSB done last week and I complained that fan doesnt blow well. The service advisor came back and said my cabin filter was dirty and needed to changed. Well, Im happy with my truck and the service I recieve from the deal so I asked how much ? I was told filter is $40 plus labor it came to around $137, I just about flipped out. In a polite tone I said no thanks and decided I would check it out when I got home. I dropped the glove box and pulled the filter in and out in less than 5 minutes,WTF????? Im shocked Honda would want so much, I didnt replace the filter but instead just blew it out with my air compressor. No Im not a cheap skate, Im just working under very dusty conditions right now and if I replaced it now would prolly need to replace it again in less than 3 months. When Im done with this current project I will replace the filter but wanted to know, its a very basic filter does Autozone or Pepboys sell a replacement ?

Thanks
J

Re: $140 to change Cabin filter ???? Aftermarket ??

I think if you do a search for the cabin air filter, you will find a number of posts about it. It is SIMPLE to remove and replace (or blow out and reinstall), and $137 for replacement is WAY too much. I've heard of some dealers going $75-80 for replacement, which is still too much, but it's better than $137.

There are aftermarket filters available. Do the search, and somewhere, someone mentioned two or three manufacturers that make them. I think it may be the same as in the Accord or Odyssey or something, so there is some crossover. I could swear someone posted a site that was selling them for around $15-20 and up.

Good luck!!

I bought an OEM filter from my dealer for $23. After you do it for the first time, if it takes 5 minutes the second time, you probably took a couple of minutes for a water break during the task.

I changed the cabin filter out yesterday. Once you get the hang of it and look it over a few minutes it is very simple. The only problem I had was with that little arm that produces tension. I never could get that sucker back on.

Tell your dealer that at least Jessie James had a gun when he stuck you up. Its very very easy to do.

Re: $140 to change Cabin filter ???? Aftermarket ??

Yeah guys I know how easy it is to change, I opened it up and just blew out the original filter until Im done with my current project. Im all for giving a dealer a bonus for good service since oil changes are a losing service but $100 to change a filter in less than 5 minutes is rape. No thanks maybe next time

Re: $140 to change Cabin filter ???? Aftermarket ??

$137 to change the cabin filter?!?! Wow...talk about a royal screwing. I would have told them, "Hmmm....I usually get wined and dined before I get screwed!".

I thought around $50 a lot. That is what I was quoted to have mine changed. This is just plain gouging. I would be tempted to call into Honda and complain about this.

Of course, with that being said....What gets me is the owners manual states that you should see your Honda service garage and have them do it. They don't even include the instructions to change it. It's not like it's brain surgery.

I got a WIX replacement filter at O'Reilly's for about $20. 5 minutes to replace.
