Left Turn Signal Issues...

Hi Guys/Gals;

First off I'm new here so hello from Canada

Okay, I have a 2006 Ridegline, with ~90,000 km's (56,000 Miles) on it.

When I turn on my headlights (either markers or full) the left turn signal lights up solid and if I try to use the turn signals, neither the left or right work.

When the headlights are not on, the turn signals work, except, when I use the left, the dashboard lights, brake lights, and right turn signals also blink.

This is extremely annoying.

I have an appointment next week for service and before I get them to look at this, I wondered if there is anything I can check. I am out of warranty now so this might be expensive. Please note I have replaced all 4 bulbs and no change.

A little more info - I have had a trailer hitch installed, however, that was over a year ago now, and this problem has just manifested itself now.

Thanks for any help.

Russ

Re: Left Turn Signal Issues...

Hello to our neighbor in the Great North! This may be way off base, but have you checked to see if any of your bulbs are burned out? I do know that turn signals can act weird if a bulb is out. However, I would guess the problem is most likely a wiring issue. I'm sure the dealer can fix it for a small, phenomenal price.

Re: Left Turn Signal Issues...

I would look at the wiring for the trailer.... a lot of times people hack into the existing wires with non-weather tight connectors and cause electrical issues. Other times, there is a "converter" box used... that somehow fries itself and causes a host of problems... shorts, backfeeding voltage, and just weird issues like you have described.

Thanks guys - I appreciate your help. Unfortunately none of the bulbs are burned out Oh well, I'll try to troubleshoot from the hitch end back, and failing that I guess the dealer can fix it.

I was recently using a trailer and one of the bulbs on it had popped out and when replaced it got turned different than what it should and was blinking all the lights on the trailer when using one turn signal, I then turned it different and then everything worked fine. Hopefully it gets sorted out for you.

Re: Left Turn Signal Issues...

I thought I would update this post as I have narrowed down the cause of the problem to be the wiring harness for the trailer hitch.

It was easy enough to isolate - they had used a factory styled connector and added a pig tail to the hitch harness so I was able to simply unplug the hitch harness and plug the Honda one's back into one another. Everything works fine now.

As to what the problem is with the hitch harness is I don't know, a short maybe?? At any rate, it was only $60 to buy in the first place so that's the most it's going to cost me I'll have the hitch place take a look at it.

I just thank the lord it wasn't my beloved Ridge
