Another TPMS question.... sorry

VERY LONG STORY,,,, quickest version I can.
Negotiated for weeks at Tulsa Honda dealer,,, multiple trips to visit,,, multiple problems that made me not wish to purchase there. My credit union has a deal with the Honda Dealer an hour away in NW Arkansas, so I called,, they where VERY nice and helpful and price was best I've found... (Plus lifetime engine/powertrain as long as you own the truck for what its worth.)

Drove over tonight and am now a proud owner of my 1st Honda. 08' Silver RTL without Nav. Manager was great and stayed an hour after closing, but when all was said and down and we were to leave and drive back, the TPMS light was on with NO associated tires showing to be low. We checked,, all 4 were low, 22/24/24/23.... Filled all up and she said light should go out when I drive. Drove all the way home and TPMS light is still on!! Any ideas on what to do before driving back another hour or hour and a half? I know I shouldn't have driven off, but she said no matter what she would fix it,,,, I just didn't know if there was a way to reset it or if I should try?

I LOVE MY NEW TRUCK,,,, other than this light on already,,,,, and thank everyone in advance for any help on this...

IIRC, the manual says that when that happens there is a malfunction with the tpms system. BTW they should have checked the tire pressures before you ever took possesion of the vehicle anyway. Sounds like they didn't go over it at all after you bought it.

Re: Another TPMS question.... sorry

Don't be sorry for asking the question. You're probably sorry enough that you HAD to ask it, though. I'd be, as well.

First time I've heard of FOUR LOW TIRES at once. Maybe it just freaked out!

Sounds like a TPMS system problem. Try this:

Turn the ignition ON (II).
The low pressure indicator and the four tire indicators should come on, then go off 2 seconds later. If they don't, the problem is with the system.

You'll have to take your Ridge in to the dealer to allow them to troubleshoot the system which involves the Honda diagnostic system (HDS) and the systematic checking/clearing of the trouble codes (DTC's).
Could be low sensor battery voltage, a loose wire, a poor control unit connection... things that I'd leave to your dealer's service dept to troubleshoot with their tools designed for just these kind of problems.

They probably have a few "known-good" TPMS control units that they may swap with yours to see if it's the culprit. You and I probably don't have one of those on any of our garage's shelves.

Make an appointment. Don't fret. They'll fix it, and it won't cost you anything under warranty.

Good Luck.

edit: the "low pressure indicator" looks like a flat tire with an exclamation point in it. (!)

First off Wecome to the ROC.
Now which light is on? There are two. The "low pressure indicator" looks like a flat tire with an exclamation point in it. (!) as Pug mentioned, the other says TPMS. If it's the latter it's a problem with the system.
The owners manual will explain it better than I can.

Re: Another TPMS question.... sorry

its the TPMS light and not the (!) light. From what I'm reading it looks like either the system need to be reset, or it is failed. Any thoughts on disconnecting the battery and letting the system reset?

Bottom line is that this truck had been on the lot a little longer than some of the others. They were willing to deal. It still had less than 30 miles, but had been on the lot for almost 6 weeks. We have had multiple large temperature changes over that time which can account for the lower tire pressure. Doesn't excuse the fact that after the truck sold, that nobody checked the tire pressure before I took the keys. I did fill all tires to about 33 before driving off the lot. Normally I would scorn myself for taking possession of a car with a warning light on, but it was a long day, and I've waited a long time for this truck, and this isn't a safety issue, but an inconvenience.

I'm trying not to let this light deflate my excitement of finally having my own Ridgeline!

Welcome! Sorry about your TPMS light. If you do disconnect the battery, be sure you have the radio code first - you will have to enter the code for it after reconnecting the battery.

Hope it all works out, the Ridge is an awesome truck!

Re: Another TPMS question.... sorry

Doc, very sorry you're having trouble with the TPMS on your new Ridgeline. Hopefully, the dealer can get it squared away quickly. When I got my '08 RTL back in January, I discovered a couple of things the dealer had overlooked in preparing the truck. I took it back to the dealer (35 miles away), and they told me I could make an appointment to get the two items fixed. I then told them that the two trips back to the dealership were going to cost me quite a bit of gas money....for something that wasn't my fault. They bought me a full tank of gas to cover my expense and compensate me for my trouble. Ask for (demand?) the same thing from your dealer. Something that was THEIR fault shouldn't cost you any money whatsoever.

And hey, welcome to the ROC, and congrats on getting your new Ridgeline!

Light should be out today. If not, you have at least 1 bad tpms. That's what the warranty is for. I too bought 110mi from home and returning for service even when they fill the tank can be a bit much. Find a local service dept you trust and they will work for your trade next time. It's a buyer's market.

Cool Re: Another TPMS question.... sorry

Word of advice. When you buy a new Ridge or any Honda for that matter, sign up on the Honda owners Link. There you can put your VIN, radio code, and other information. They will also email you if you have a service coming up or there is a special on an accessory or service like an oil change or tire rotation. My dealer helped me set it up before I left with my new 08 Ridge. Yea they send you spam about deals on new cars and stuf, but it keeps your info handy and I'd rather get spam about oil changes than making my di ... big ..., well you know what I mean!

Re: Another TPMS question.... sorry

Jack, nice tip for new...or old...Honda owners. I haven't seen much mentioned on the forum (virtually nothing) about Honda's "Owner's Link." It's a great service that Honda provides to owners. Hope everyone's taking advantage of it.
