Turning autolock off has no effect on this problem.
The Honda dealership agrees with me and said that some dimwitted software designer in Japan decided to re-lock my doors whether I want them re-locked or not (their words not mine).
You can prevent it, go open a door.

The dealership is agreeing with an upset customer as all Honda vehicles do this.

The designers of your truck are not from Japan. Come to Ohio in June and meet them. They love to "talk-Ridgeline"

Keith, Since I don't have a spare $500 for the gasoline to get from Margaritaville to Ohio, can you ask the designers why certain "convenience" settings can't be changed? The lock-out system, the horn honk when the remote lock is pressed the 2nd time, etc., are all things that could be user-configurable.

If GMC can make some of these setting configurable on their less-expensive trucks, why can't Honda?

Re: Kill the AUTO LOCK...PLEASE

The auto lock I understand you beef with...but the "honk on 2nd button push?" If you don't want a honk, don't push it a second time!

I assume the auto-lock is so that if you are at home, and your key is accidentally pressed and the truck unlocks (or a kid does it, or a dog, whatever) ... your truck won't STAY open for thieves to come by and do what they want with it. Same thing at a restaurant, or wherever...accidental presses of the unlock button don't leave the truck vulnerable.

because 99% of their customers aren't so picky. Most people understand that if you press once, system is armed. press twice within 5 seconds, horn toots, giving audible confirmation. They also understand that if they are unlocking their car doors via remote, it's likely because they aim to open a door fairly soon, rather than not do anything.

I have to support djeaux on this one. I'm one of the customers that fit in the 99% you describe. However, even with that, most any feature can be set up to be programmable. Why wouldn't Honda give customers more options especially considering the cost of these changes in the grand scheme of things is negligible? Nothing wrong with giving people options especially considering no additional hardware would be required...just software changes.

You haven't said what year Ridgeline you have. Apparently there was a problem with the door locks cycling twice and locking when they aren't supposed to on a few 2006's.

The thread I posted the link to describes a similar problem as yours, and the fix for it.

Looking for TSB 07012005
Thanks for the reference. Interesting. My Ridgeline is a 2006.
I didn't do a very good job of describing the problem in my post. It actually happens when the truck has been locked and then I unlock it with the fob. After doing that if I don't enter in 20 seconds or so (placing something in the bed for instance) it locks itself! There is nothing in the manual that will prevent that from happening and my Honda dealer agrees with me on that.
I just hate that about the Ridgeline. When I press the unlock button on my fob I want it to remain unlocked even if don't enter the vehicle for a week!

You can't PREVENT it the door IS LOCKED! You can only work around it. It should be a user option. To do otherwise on vehicle after vehicle is unresponsive to customer needs.

Re: Kill the AUTO LOCK...PLEASE

There have been alot of times when I'm about to enter my RL, push the unlock button on the fob, then decide to get the mail from the mailbox (about forty feet away). Just as I'm returning to the door, it locks.
So... I understand the frustration, but having the keys already in my hand, another simple push of the button is all that's necessary. No biggie.
After all, it WAS my indecision in the first place that led to my frustration, in the first place.
Sometimes, if I know my hands will be full, I open and close the door to defeat the lock.

After all... I do remember having door locks that you needed to unlock manually... with the key... so the convenience of the fob, to me, is still a welcome part of the Ridge.

Re: Kill the AUTO LOCK...PLEASE

If I was in your situation here's what I'd do:
- Don't lock the truck to begin with
- Open a door after unlocking with the key fob
Pretty simple.

The relocking door feature is actually a security feature that I would rather have. If my nephews and nieces are playing with my keys and accidentally unlock my truck, I would very much rather have the truck re-lock.
