Question Electrical Problems

I have a 2007 Honda Ridgeline RTL with about 22k miles.

Everything has been fine until yesterday when my truck would not start after driving it home from work.

The RPM gauge stuttered and the lights were weak. I looked on here and decided it must be the battery.

I switched out the battery, and now the truck starts. However, the GPS,the alarm, the power locks, and some of the lighting does not work. The RPM guage is also still stuttering when it powers on.

I am taking it in tomorow morning, to my dealer who wasn't very responive yesterday when I called before replacing the battery.

Anyone have any idea what the issue may be ?

Just to add: I have checked some of the fuses and so far everything looks okay

I'm pretty sure that it is. Most modern alternators have internal voltage regulators.

I would check to see if you have a loose battery cable and blew a couple of fuses before investigating a new alternator if you are not under warranty. If you are, let the dealer deal with it.

Re: Electrical Problems

I checked the fuses and battery cable and couldn't find any issues. The factory battery appears to still be good according to a battery test and the eye is still green.

I am still under factory warranty and then have a extended 6 year warranty with MasterTech on top of it.

I just wasn't very pleased with my dealers response yesterday when it wouldn't start, and today when I called to discuss the situation. The truck isn't even two years old yet, and it is still under the factory warranty. I figured they could at least get me in same day to run a diagnostic to let me know what was going on.

I am also not very pleased that because I have MasterTech extended warranty coverage which they sold me, that they first tried to refer me call them. I was never offered Honda Care warranty coverage when I was sold the car.

Did you check the ground on the frame side of the battery cable and did you check the fuse boxes under the hood? There are several of them. I haven't heard of too many bad alternators but it's possible.

My battery still glowed green but it was junk. It had about 300 cca. It's supposed to have something like 550 cca. I ended up buying an Optima to replace the OEM battery when it was still under warranty. IMHO an Optima is worth the money. I don't believe in replacing something unless it's broke or its a weak car battery. Being stranded aint no fun.

Was it a load test? Because that's the only test that is definitive unless it has an obvious bad cell.

Angry Re: Electrical Problems

I had the same problem 2 days ago. I had a 2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL and I ave exactly 2 years with it.
The truck ould not start and my husband ad tojump start my battery and it trned on. About 2 weeks ago when I did my oil change the mechanic tod us our battery would die anytime. I didn't think that would happen, it's been only 2 years, but guess what, it did ot turn on 2 days ago.
I am very upset. I am calling the dealership to see if they can help me out.
That is just not right. And supposedly it saves energy from the battery. Very upset.

Batteries die. That's what they do.

Are you missing some keys on your computer keyboard?

So you got yourself a defective battery. It happens from time to time. A lot of things can happen in two years. Try to recall what happened in the last little while. Did someone leave the radio on for a long time with the engine off? Was the vehicle sitting in the garage for an extended period of time? Are your connections at the battery on solid? Did you or someone else install an accessory?

BTW, what is the first 8 digits (letters and numbers) of your VIN (vehicle identification number)? It is on the dash of the driver's side. You view it through the bottom part of the windshield.
