Rear tailgate latch broke

My tailgate no longer swings open. The POS latch just snapped.
Also I have a question..Are the bed light supposed to go on with the tailgate folded down? Mine just flash as you open it then when it is folded down they go out. They work when it wuld swing open...just not folded down..anyone else?

I don't believe the lights are on when down - only swung out.

thanks for the TSB...it weird, when the tailgate swings down half way the lights come on for a sec then as you continue swing it down they go out

Hmmm... yeah, I don't think they are supposed to do that... if you take the Ridge in, have them check that too!

Mine does the same. For that matter, if you sit on the open tailgate, the lights will sometimes come back on.

Most likely cause, the switch that cues the lights when swung out probably trips when the gate is partially down. Honestly I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

The lights come on when the tailgate swings & they also come on when the trunk is open (fold down tailgate and open trunk).
I have had some problems with the swing out latch myself. I have to WD-40 it often, then it opens good for a while. I figure it was due to the dusty environment but not sure now...might be something inside that is getting hung?

Well I got the truck back, they did the TSB. Also they adjusted it so the light does and is supposed to come on with the tailgate swung down (traditional)
