Not exactly a testament to the Ridge's ability to towing prowess, but it pulls my driftboat very nicely. Not much weight, but it does act like a big sail back there.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

This will be my first post to the forums though I have been using these forums to research towing capabilities. There was no question after we first drove the Ridgeline that we were buying it, even though I had planned to move down to the new Civic from a 2002 CR-V. We purchased this 2007 in July 2006 and now have 20,000 kms (12,400 mi) on it.

The question became which trailer we would buy that suits this truck. I have followed this thread with interest and we purchased our trailer back in October, 2006. We chose a hybrid trailer, an Antigua 215SSO, posted at about 4150 lbs (likely very close to 5,000 lbs when loaded). We are using a weight-distributing hitch, a friction sway bar and a Tekonsha brake controller.

I have to admit that I was very concerned with the first tow back from the trailer dealer (about 110 km / 70 miles by highway). We fought a pretty strong, steady head wind in 3rd gear moving the tach to 3600 RPM at 95 km/h (60 mph) for most of the trip. Pretty unnerving when you are used to 2200 RPM at highway speed (115 km/h, 75 mph) . However, the engine dropped to 1800 RPM in 5th whenever we passed under an underpass so I took some comfort that it was probably the wind issue. Despite the wind, the ride was very smooth with virtually no sway from passing cars and trucks - and believe me, many vehicles were passing us while driving at 95 km/h on Hwy 407 north of Toronto.

We have camped these past 2 weekends and the towing has been very good, mainly because of the light winds. The trips have been relatively short (130 km each way) but we drove at about 105 km/h (65 mph) normally in 4th, sometimes in 5th and dropping to 3rd on most grades. Gas mileage has been around 14 mpg, combined with non-towing travel around the campground (50/50).

We are headed to Ottawa, ON this weekend which will be our 1st long tow (about 475 km / 300 mi). It's a long trip for an overnight stay but it's a family event (baptism) and it will also serve as a dry run for a planned 2-week trip to Brockville, ON and then on to Ausable Chasm, NY this summer. It will also allow me to calculate pure towing fuel mileage as I know that I will have to fill up along the way.

Thanks to everyone for the great postings and advice that I have been able to pick up the past 6 months.

Hi FamilyRidge! It’s great to have you here. Welcome to the club as I’m sure you’ll enjoy both it and your new truck……

Except for the weight-distributing hitch and friction sway bar we’ve done the very same thing with practically the same results. ROC-On! and happy camping…..Oh, congrats on picking the correct color too!!

We're looking into a "WDH" as well for the added weight of our scooters.

Hey Ron,

After looking at the pics of your camper and RL together, I now realize that the camper's steel wheels need a bit of dressing up. Perhaps some black paint and chrome rings would do the job?

Nice pics and looks like a lot of fun!
