The lawn tractor I bought weighs 493 pounds with an empty gas tank. With the dual bagger and a tank of gas it is about 550 pounds. I only have one yard right now that really requires a lawn tractor, but I am good at drumming up business for myself. The lawn tractor loads up easily with the aluminum ramps that I bought with it. I saved nearly $500 with my Craftsman Club Card and their sale. The price that I was quoted for the trailer was $3349.

Check craigslist and set up an alert. You can find these kind of trailers used but they sell within hours.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)
If it helps, I just picked up the trailer for $2500 brand new from a dealer here, but I bought it through Ebay. It wasn't a leftover, just their normal price.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)
We are so isolated here that a drive to save the money is almost not worth it. Redding is the closest city on any size and it is 143 miles east through the mountains. I do not mind staying local, the trailer that I was looking at is a 6 by 10 wedge in forest green. My favorite color since I was a little kid.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)
Don't have a picture from today, but had three loads from Home Depot. The first, which I didn't realize until I got home and weighed a bag of rocks. I purchased 19 bags of marble chips (~40lb/bag) and 12 bags of topsoil (40lb/bag), but probably 50lbs each because they were wet. I would say around 1300lbs in the back plus me at 200lbs. So I probably had the near 1550 max loaded on my truck. I did notice a couple things. My idle rpms went from the 700 range to about 900 when I sat at a light and the steering felt light. The truck dropped about two inches. Luckily, I only had a five mile drive home with little hills or bumps.
My two other loads were 800 and 1100. With 800lbs, idle stayed at 700 and the 1100 went back up to 900 range. Does anyone know why this is? Other than that, the truck did very well. Unfortunately, on my last load, as I was closing my tailgate a new Chevy 1500 pickup took the turn to wide into the parking spot and nicked a small (1x1 inch) amount of paint near the rear driver wheel well. He plans to pay cash for the touch up. Thankfully, he didn't dent the metal!!DS |

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)
Still interesting if anyone could explain why rpms increase with the weight of a loaded truck? Could it be the front lifting slightly due to the back lowering?
Not worried about my truck, just interested to learn more about carrying weight and towing? When towing heavy loads, does rpms generally increase as well because of the load? ds |
