Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

I can add something here...

I just towed my 22.5 foot Mastercraft Maristar 225VRS boat with the Ridgeline from Lake Travis to the dealer about 20 miles away in hilly Austin.

The Ridgeline pulled it out of the water with no problem. The RL downshifted regularly pulling the boat up hills but kept up with traffic. Braking was no problem (the trailer has brakes).

I was actually surprised how well the RL did. I think the boat is close to 5000 lbs on the trailer.

I know now that I don't need to borrow my BIL's F250.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

Did I make a mistake hauling 1300-1350lbs in the bed as I have seen pictures of people towing in excess of 4-5000lbs on this site. Is a payload of 1500 lbs equivalent to towing 5000lbs?

I saw shovelhd respond to an old post that idle should be 730+/- 50 for the ridgeline. This is where my truck was, but now it is definately higher than spec. Since my Home Depot runs, my idle is staying between 900-950rpms.

Even if something isn't fouled up, I will be wasting more gas as I sit at a stoplights, which is 60% of my driving. Can't imagine getting worse gas mileage at this point in time.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

Here's my new toy. 22.5 ft Surveyor SV210. Weighed it on the way out for the weekend and we came in at 4532 lbs with the water tank full. I was pleasantly surprised how well the Ridge did on the hills here in the Okanagan. I pulled up drought hill south of Kelowna B.C. which is a 8% grade and never dropped below 85 km/h. I am using a Reese Dual Cam for those of you who are curious. I had a bad experience a few years ago and now I always use sway control. I tried not to look at the price of gas. Costs me $89 Cdn to fill up. Needless to say we're staying close to home this year. The last picture is taken on Lakeshore Drive in Penticton, B.C. with Okanagan Lake in the back ground.

Hey Lohmeb2, Thanks for posting photos of your new travel trailer! It’s absolutely gorgeous! I kinda wish we bought a few more feet longer to get the rear bathtub/shower unit too. Happy camping!!

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

I'm so confused....

I have an '07 Ridge. Last year I was about to buy a steel trailer weighing approximately 1800 lbs. It was going to be used to tow my S2000 to the track periodically (3-5 times/year) - S weighs about 2800 lbs plus gear (xtra set of rims/tires, jack, etc.). The trailer company said there was no way they would recommend the Ridge towing something that heavy. The install guy wouldn't even recommend using his Cherokee with 5500 lb towing capacity. Result = gave up on the idea of using the Ridge as a tow vehicle and opted for a small tire trailer and removable hitch on the S. Good stuff but the preferred would be to use the Ridge.

Thoughts?

You gave up too easily and the install guy is an idiot. There is plenty of documentation on this website about the RL's ability to tow.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

Looks like your load would be 5200 pounds or so, which should be no problem for the Rudgeline as long as you set the tongue weight properly.

Now, I NEED to know, how did you get Danika Patrick into your car??????????

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

Sounds like I did give up a too easily. That is far from my norm (i.e., the "never quit" deal in my name). I trusted the actual trailer people that I was willing to plop down serious dough on a custom trailer to instead of the stated Honda figures. I guess I got caught up in the "they all overstate their numbers but I wouldn't do it if it was my truck" sort of chatter. Considering I was about to pay for the trailer it was like they should know, why wouldn't I listen, I'm about to pay them big bucks, and they're telling me no.

If I do get a trailer it will be a far smaller one, perhaps aluminum so I can get the weight down to more like 1200 - 1400. IF, I do it. Hard to warrant spending that sort of money on a trailer when I only track a few times per year (HPDE not competitive).

Now...the Danica deal. For the past several years I have been involved in the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg - parade laps, etc.. With that comes dealings with the IRL, AndrettiGreen Racing, etc. - As a "reward" in 2007 we had a nice photo shoot for about 20 of us in our S2000s. Yes, she is just as cute/hot in person, she was very nice to all of us, she's ultra tiny, super strong handshake, smelled like honeysuckle.
