Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

I see a Blue Ridgeline pulling an Airstream with tandem (two wheels per side), is that the 22 footer? My wife and I were looking at that one. How does it pull? How much did the mileage drop? We would like to learn more. Thanks for your time.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

I am as enthusiastic a Honda owner as most. I own an Accord with 200,000 faultless miles and a Ridgeline with rear window seal defect.

Regarding towing, I encourage everyone to stay within the engineered limits of the vehicle. Read the fine print in your manual. You must make compensations for passengers, gear, etc.

So, in very general terms, although a Ridgeline may be rated for 5,000 lbs by the time you put people, fuel, gear etc on board you are down to pulling a vehicle rated 4,000 lbs or less.

Judging by some of the pictures, I see that some folks are towing loads that do not appear to be prudent from an engineering point of view, nor safe, nor legally wise (get ready to be sued and/or charged in an accident.)

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

First of all I am no expert on towing, but I’ve looked at all the towing photos in this thread, and I have to agree with 94 Accord EX F250 that “…some folks are towing loads that do not appear to be prudent from an engineering point of view.” I bought my RL to tow a 14’ jon boat, and an 8’ open utility trailer to haul furniture, lawn equipment and the like, but have no plans to haul anything close to what some members are hauling with their RL’s. As 5S Dude said, “…We're all entitled to an opinion here on the ROC.” This is my non-expert opinion. I agree that everyone is entitled to do whatever they feel is safe and prudent within the limitations and specifications of the RL, but I also believe we all need to exercise a little common sense.

I do concur with both you and 94 Accord EX F250 as well. Exercising a little common sense does go a long way! Especially when it pertains to towing safety.

Re: Ridgeline's can tow (photos)

To CCVAVRA,

Yes, it's a 2003 Airstream 22ft. CCD model. The Ridgeline tows it very well but I would not tow anything bigger than mine. I used to own a Nissan Titan, it was a very good, but not great truck. It towed beautifully but it barely fit in my garage and the mileage while not towing wasn't much different when I was towing. The Ridgeline does it all. I haven't pulled my Airstream over the Rockies (yet) but went on 4 trips last summer through the Berkshires to Cape Code, Maine and the Adirondacks, no problems at all. I travel fairly light, 2 adults, and one Doberman. I was getting 13-14 while towing.

Are you looking for a used or new? The reason I ask is because the newer 22 ft. models have a higher GVWR than mine so I would look carefully at the numbers.

Best of luck, any other questions just let me know.

James
