Trailering the Ridgeline..Wiring Dilema

I have a 2006 RTS, I've just purchased the wiring harness required for hauling a trailer that is for a 7 & 4 pin socket.

My questions is, under the dash they have the 4 & 10 pin plugs. The install instructions say to connect "both" 4 & 10 pin connectors together under the dash to the supplied controller but, when you read the owners manual, it states to connect the "Electronic Brake Controller" to the 4 pin under the dash with the trailer harness supplied with the trailer wiring kit. It already is connected in the previous instructions???

Does this means that the vehicle is actually wired to "not" need a controller? Any help in understanding this "double talk" would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Angelo

Re: Trailering the Ridgeline..Wiring Delema

I just install mine last week. You have to connect the four pin harness wire (brake contoller) to the connector that is locate under your dash just at the top of the hand brake release pedal. Then you connect the 4 wires to your brake controller module.

Where exactly do you plug the brake controller in? I'm using a Tekonsha Voyageur and I've wired it to the Honda harness that was in the glove box. Is it the bottom right slot that is on the circuit board on the side of the vehicle above the fuse box? (If that makes any sense?!?!?) A picture would be awesome if you have one.

Read this trhead: http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/f...335#post116335

I believe there are photos to find the 4-pin connector.

I included photos of the OEM 4-pin brake pig-tail below.

Find the connector that matches this plug up-under the left side of dash and wire your supplied brake controler to the ends as marked below.

Hope this helps.

Just did mine the other day. I have the same brake controller you have. Just solder the wires to the Honda pigtail and reach waaaay up under the dash to the 4 pin plug wrapped with blue tape and plug her in, then mount the controller and you are done! Works like a champ.

I have the same question. I have a trailer with electric brakes that I want to use the Ridge to tow. I just rec'd my Honda 2007 trailer wiring harness kit which has both the 4 pin and the ten pin coming out of the control unit.

From what I am reading should I only connect the 10 pin wire under the dash to the Honda control unit and connect the 4 pin to Sub harness which runs to a after market brake controller? The instructions aren't clear on this.

Also the rear harness with the trailer socket has two connections on it...... one at the end which connects to the truck harness but does anyone know where the second one attached at the mid point of this assembly goes? I can't see any connection point under the truck and see no mention of it in the instructions? I would appreciate any assistance you can offer.

Both the 4 pin and 10 pin hook into the harness up under the dash.

From reading all the trailer wiring threads a month ago when I did my install: The pigtail for the brake controller plugs into a connector that is located near the parking brake lever.

Oh, and I believe that midpoint connection on the rear harness is "extra" and for a bisc install, leave the dust cover attached and ignore it.

Thumbs up Re: Trailering the Ridgeline..Wiring Dilema

OK that sounds reasonable. I did the rear and have been trying to educate myself before I attempt the rest of the install. By the way what is a bisc install?

Thanks Firefighter!
