Any recommendations for a hitch?

Hi folks,

I have an '07 RTS and am looking to get a hitch. I've read somewhere that the RTS already has the wiring harness installed...don't seem to find that info in the onwers manual. Perhaps someone can clear that 'rumor' up?

Given that fact or fiction, any recommendations on a hitch?

Many thanks,

~Steve

Re: Any recommendations for a hitch?

This one has been covered a few times, you'll find that the search option is your friend.

Unless your Ridgeline has a trailer hitch installed on it, you have what the comedian's at Honda consider a "pre-wired" truck. This means that the wiring for the Honda Trailer harness is already run from the rear of the truck to a mildly inconvenient location under the dash. If you purchase the Honda Trailer Wiring Harness, you will need to install: 3 relays and a control module under the dash, a couple fuses under the hood, and a wiring harness under the back of the truck.

The install is a bit of a pain, and requires some moderate contortionist type moves. That said, it is something that you can do yourself with only some basic mechanical aptitude and a paitence. The Honda Harness gives you both a 7 pin and a 4 pin trailer plug at the rear of the truck, and everything electrical is isolated to it's own circuits (so if you screw something up, it should affect the rest of the trucks electrical system).

As for a Hitch, almost any of the aftermarkets will work fine, although there have been some issues with alignment of the Curt Hitch due to damage incurred while shipping. The Honda Hitch, while more expensive, is also an option.

Re: Any recommendations for a hitch?

I love my Honda hitch. From what I have seen (and I have not seen it all) it just may be one of the only hitches with both 4-pin and 7-pin connections - very handy.

I installed it myself in an hour or two. And with a beer or two...

Re: Any recommendations for a hitch?

just spent hours messing with the hidden hitch and would not recomend beacuse the holes do not line up. My wife took he 2006 Pilot EX-L to uhaul and for 250 bucks they installes and wired it for her. I would consider that option and not get the agrevation that i dealt with.

Or get the Honda Kit.

The aftermarket wiring is pretty easy though.

When we got our OEM hitch kit and installed it we did not need to any of the things you have mentioned except to connect the wireing under the dash, and the harness at the back of the truck. There were no relays or modules or fuses to install. And the OEM bolts right up without drilling, prying ect. that others have exspereinced with some of the after market hitches. Install time was about 2hr's and that includes brakeing for pizza.

Re: Any recommendations for a hitch?

Ok, apparently I wasn't clear. The relays and fuses are part of the Honda Wiring Harness. It's a relatively easy install.

Are you saying that you didn't add the extra fuses under the hood that came with the Wiring Harness?

It's been 2yr's and my memory is getting short, but I don't recall adding any thing under the hood.
