Labor for hitch install

I've got a new RTS on the way and I am considering having the dealer install the wiring harness and hitch. Can anyone advise what the normal shop labor (in hours) would be for the install?

Re: Labor for hitch install

Here is a link to a thread I started on install prices, not hours, a couple of months ago.. It is probably about the same now...

Anyone have a recent price for a hitch install?

The Invoice listed 3.5 hours on my install...

Hope this helps...

3.5 hrs? wow... U-Haul installed my hitch in 90 mins in real time. If not a fan of UHaul, try a Camper World or a similar place that specializes in towing and hitches.

My dealer charged $52.00 to install the harness. I did the hitch myself in about an hour.

$98 buckaroos for all harnesses and the hitch @ my Honda dealer. Given the heat (21 days of 100) I'm delighted. A job most Americans wouldn't do, ha ha.

The hitch install is very simple. It requires no drilling. The hitch just bolts right to the frame through pre-drilled holes with nuts welded to the top of the frame. Outside of a socket/rachet set, the only 'special tool' required is a torque wrench to make sure the hitch is tightened down properly. As an alternative to the OEM wiring harness, I went to my local camper/RV store and had them do it using T-1 connectors (no cutting of wires needed), and the parts + labor cost was around $80. Good luck.

Re: Labor for hitch install

I'm not clear on something - and maybe you hitch installers/owners can help me clear it up....
My truck is supposed to have been equipped with a 4/7 Pin trailer Connection Prewire. And, I can see there is some kind of plug up under the rear bumper that is probably what the one it's referring to. I would guess the other end of the wires connected to that plug tie in to the vehicle's electrical system per whatever is required for the brakes and lights of the trailer.

Is that correct? Or do I need to find the other end, and hook them up? And if so to what? a fuse box of some kind?

If it is correct, and the other end is already tied into the vehicle's electrical system, then what is the "harness" that is also supposed to be installed when the hitch is installed?

You cn probbaly tell I don't know what I'm talking about - but I am half-intelligent, so I may understand more of your answer than it might seem.
Thanks very much

You will need a harness that attaches to a pigtail under the dashboard. Also up front is a relay. These items come as a kit. At the back of the truck is another pigtail that connects the plug you see up in the fender to the connector box on the trailer hitch. It's a two step process, first do the front end electrical work, then do the back end. Does that make any sense at all?
