Utility Boxes for the Bed

I'm researching lockable storage to sit on the bed, just behind the cab. For obvious reasons the hanger type will not work Anyone acquired something?

I'm looking at a container that can be secured as required to the bed and locked.

Re: Utility Boxes for the Bed

Check for some of the bed boxes that bolt, or screw, into the bed floor. You might be able to get one to mount close to the cab but it could be difficult to reach.

Re: Utility Boxes for the Bed

I had a Delta aluminum box that I bought from a farm store for my Ranger. It sat in the bed and had a small angle to account for the wheel wells. It was about level with the bed. I secured it by drilling holes in the sides and used bolts with hoods to secure the box to the front tie downs.

I kept the box after trading the Ranger (installing it in my TITAN), and gave it to my dad, but in the meantime I threw it in the RL to see how it looked, and it was perfect and looked good. Here's a pic of it in my Ranger, you can barely see it, but gives you an idea of how tall it is.

Re: Utility Boxes for the Bed

I have an aluminum bed box I bought on E-bay. I bolted 2x6 pieces to the upper tie-downs, then ran a 2x2 across the truck, which sits atop a ridge on the back of bed box. I bolted thru the box into this 2x2; no holes in truck bed, easily removed, and secure.

Re: Utility Boxes for the Bed

I found one that fits close, but it's a yellow job box from Dewalt that looks kind of 'industrial'. I like the idea of securing to the existing tie downs though. I hate to star putting holes in the truck deck if I can avoid it.

Re: Utility Boxes for the Bed

I'm leaving bright and early for Florida tomorrow, but I'll post some pics when I get back. The box fits perfectly, and I have mods with it to mount the Performance bike carrier.
