Cushioned Ball Mount

Does anyone know about using a cushioned ball mount. Looking at etrailer it states that it:
· Acts as a shock absorber
· Protects the towing vehicle's driveline, hitch assembly and trailer contents
· Easy to install
· Proven effective in reducing bounce and rhythmic vibrations

we are buying a Rockwood Roo 233 and I am buying the parts that I need. Don’t really want to spend the $59.95 for the cushioned ball mount if I end up having to buy the WD hitch.

Re: Cushioned Ball Mount

See how it rides without it first. Just because someone makes it doesn't necessarily mean we need it.

Re: Cushioned Ball Mount

I have one of the Schuck Hitches. It reduces the "clunking" or slapping sound you get when the weight releases off and then back onto the hitch. I think it helps some, but it doesn't make a huge difference in how the trailer (boat) tows.

Honda recommends against the use of weight distribution hitches due to issues found during development where th WD hitch if improperly adjusted causes stability issues (Apparently quite easy to do with the Ridgelines design [?]). This info is straight from Gary Flint at the 2007 National Meet in Saint Louis, MO. I do not tow so I have no first hand experience with hitches in general. However, I have learned to trust what Mr. Flint has to offer.

The shock absorber ball works great for my neighbor who tows a 30 ft trailor.

Re: Cushioned Ball Mount

MikeT--the WDH does indeed affect the handling. Since I had one (which also has an anti sway bar hookup) I decided to check it out at different tensions while towing our 17' Hi-Lo. Best results for me were virtually no tension on the links, as "snugging it up" really made hitting dips kind of spooky feeling. Honda did their homework.
