If all you have is a small trailer with a pair of taillights, I think you'll be fine with a T-tap. Anything more than that (electric brakes, marker lights, power taps, etc) and you're asking for trouble. It may mean just a blown fuse, but do you want to deal with that in the middle of a monsoon with Sgt. Slaughter standing outside your window?

Do not worry about achieving your optimum fuel economy until you get the vehicle broke-in according to the recommended guidelines described in your owners manual."
