Which trailer hitch to buy?

I will be traveling across the county and will be towing a Uhaul trailer. Which trailer hitch should I purchase, one that is reliable, strong, economical and easy to install. Yea, I know, I'm asking for he world but if someone can suggest one with which they've had a good experience, I would really appreciate it.

Cheers!

Re: Which trailer hitch to buy?

IMO the factory hitch is great!!! Had mine almost 3 years now with no problems. I tow my SFWD car on an open 18foot trailor with it all over the place. Never had an issuse easy to install and it's prewired from the factory so there isnt that much wiring to actually do. Small harness uner the dash and harness in the rear that connects to the hitch itself. Honda factory hitch gets my vote.

Just my .02 cents

Go with the factory hitch and wire harness. To many are complaining about the fit problems with most of the after market stuff. It's either bad manufacturing or damage in shipping.

From what has been said by myself and others about hitches on here is they all work it just depends on what looks good to you and what you want to pay. The Honda hitch is roughly twice the money of the U-haul hitch I have on mine and the Honda hitch attaches with 6 bolts instead of 4 like the U-haul and some others do. Only downside to other hitches are some might not offer a place to mount the light plug-ins. There was no problem installing my U-haul hitch.

Re: Which trailer hitch to buy?

I went with the OEM parts and purchased them via internet. Paid about half of the local dealer rate. My selling dealer installed everything for $95 (hitch and harnesses) and I've been very happy with the results. Plus, if I ever have a warranty issue, Honda can't say it was due to "after market parts".

Re: Which trailer hitch to buy?

Sounds like the concensus is that I should go with the Honda OEM trailer hitch. Does anyone know how much they cost (parts) and installation (labor)?

I was told by my dealer that and aftermarket hitch WOULD NOT affect your warranty at all, make sure to have it in writing...... So I have the Hidden Hitch and aftermarket harness

Bernardi Parts has the hitch for $249.21, wiring harness for $134.55 and locking hitch pin for $21.00 (plus shipping) which is nearly $130 off of MSRP. Bought my takeoff wheels from them and found them to be very easy to deal with and they shipped very quickly. Can't help you with installation cost but many here have done it themselves and claim that it's fairly easy and straightforward. Bought mine with my truck so it would be covered under the factory warranty (as are all OE accessories when purchased with the vehicle).

I would like to go with the OEM parts, but my local dealer (the one from whom I bought my Ridgeline) quoted me a price of $750 ( ) for parts and labor. I was in shock, so I didn't ask if that might also include the brake controller, which I really don't need.

I can get the OEM hitch and harness shipped to me for $491 from H&A.

May even consider a non-OEM hitch if I can't get a better deal from one of the other dealers in town.
