three-quarter ton????

I want to rent a Bobcat-like loader to do some yard work and have been told that I need to have a "3/4 ton" truck to pull the units available.

I have the complete Honda towing kit installed by the dealer--I know I can pull 5,000 lbs. and have 1,500 lb payload capabity, but have no idea about the 3/4 ton reference. I understand that 1,500 is 3/4 of 2,000 but don't want to do anything to screw up hitch, engine, etc. by taking the word of the desk guy at the rental place that "ahhh, you should be ok with that thar Ridgelane"

Thanks!!

Re: three-quarter ton????

what's the weight of the bob cat + the wait of the trailer the bob cat's going to be on to haul to the destination?

Probably the desk guy thinks that you have a honda car not a honda truck.

Re: three-quarter ton????

I checked online - just google bobcat weight - and all but the three smallest bobcats are over 5000lbs themselves, no trailer included. I would expect that when you add the trailer, the standard bobcat (the ones that they rent - 48" width and 25hp) are all overweight for the RL's capacity.

Re: three-quarter ton????

Call back and ask for the weight of the trailor and "Bobcat like" units. Then add the weights together. If it is more than 5000lbs, you will need a vehicle with a greater towing capacity. If not, make sure you have the correct size ball for the trailor.

thanks for the quick responses!--it was a JCB model and all of them appear to be 5,000+

Re: three-quarter ton????

To haul a bobcat you would need to find a "mini skid-steer" such as a "dingo" or a "vermeer" They weight roughly 2200 - 2600 pounds and the trailer would be around 1500 so the hole package would be < 4,500 lbs.

Re: three-quarter ton????

A 3/4 ton (Read: F-250; Dodge/Chevy 2500) would definately be an advantage. Those can pull something like 12-15,000 lb's I think. I used to pull 10,000 with my 3/4 ton Suburban, but I never had the specs on what it was rated to pull...
