Smile Ridgeline as Towing Vehicle

Can anyone give me some feedback on the Ridgelines towing ability. I have a 17 foot CC, 90Hp and single axle trailer. Total weight is approximately 2000 lbs give or take I guess. I possibly may upgrade to a 21 footer in a couple of years. I mainly tow within 100 - 150 miles (one way) 2 to 3 times a month. I have read that the manufacture has put a conservative 5000 lb tow capacity on the Ridgeline. I currently own a 2007 Ridgeline TRL and a 2004 Toyota Sequoia (V8). I have yet to tow the boat with the Ridgeline, no problem pulling with the Toyota (my wife's).

Appreciate any comments from owners or folks who have ridden in the Ridgeline while towing.

Thanks,

Kirk

Re: Ridgeline as Towing Vehicle

I picked up the yellow pages the other day and stared at the cover for about an hour. I waited for the phone number that I was looking for to magically appear on the cover.

Nothing happened. Go figure.

Do a search on "Towing" and you'll get all your answers.

Also, you might look at this thread.

kroma, this is Uncle Rico's obtuse way of telling you that this question has been asked and answered at least 200 times in the forum already. Use the search tool. You'll find more than you'll ever want to know.

Here's a good one to start with.

Re: Ridgeline as Towing Vehicle

I just picked up a 6 x 10' (12') V-nose cargo trailer to pull behind my brand new RTX. Pulled her home and almost forgot it was behind me...Ok, so it was empty...it still weighed in at about 1200 lbs.

Re: Ridgeline as Towing Vehicle

I pull my 17ft CC 90hp with a single axle with no problems. My boat is all glass and weighs in closer to 3K. Much easier than pulling it with my Jeep Cherokee. More stability on the road too, although I always thought the Jeep was too short a wheelbase to pull the boat. One difference, the Jeep had better low-end torque and had an easier time pulling it out of the water and up a steep ramp. No problem with the RL, but just feel like it's struggling more.

I tow an 18.6 foot CC key west with a 115 4 stroke, t-top and other must have stuff. You should have no problem in "D". On the ramps that are slick or wet- you still shouldn't have a problem, but you could put it in D2 with AWD engaged just in case.

Do NOT use D2 on the boat ramp! Use D1 if D3 won't do the trick.
D2 will lock the transmision in 2nd gear, it will not start off in 1st gear.
Second, AWD is always engaged you can't turn it off.
When in D1 you can engage the VTM-4. It will not engage in D3. Do not make any sharp turns with the VTM-4 engaged.
If all else fails, read the manual!
