Re: Who's done a hitch "mix-n-match"?

Do you have pics? Did you mount the bracket to the bottom of the hitch? I'm trying to avoid ground clearance issues so that might not work for me. If not, where did you attach it? I just found a thread where someone mounted the plugs to the bumper, way to the left. That might work for me...

Re: Who's done a hitch "mix-n-match"?

We have an uhaul hitch. I picked it up from a dealer here in town. I bought the OEM wiring harness from Majestic Honda for 121.68. My wife and I installed both the hitch and the wiring harness in about an hour. I wasn’t sure how I was going to mount the wire plugs. Thought about the bumper drilling but really didn’t want to do that. So I found at etrailer “no drill mount bracket, long” Code 18136. Worked great! OEM wire plug bolts to bracket then you attach the bracket to your tube hitch with a hose clamp. Very solid! I think our grand total was about $230. Our quote from Honda was about $700.

Do you have pics? This sounds like a winner combination.

Re: Who's done a hitch "mix-n-match"?

Well, I ended up going with a modified muffler clamp mount. I'm hoping to learn from others mistakes and improve on this cheap and easy mounting method. I added a bracket to modify the spacing and mounted it at an angle that should prevent damage from anything but the most aggressive off-road adventure. And if I want to get really aggressive off road I just need to loosen the nuts and rotate it up to 90 degrees.

That's the one that was installed with the Hidden Hitch by the previous owner (I bought my Ridge used).

Hey Stranger - Thanks for sharing the detailed pics. Looks real good.
Hopefully I will be going down this installation road in a couple of weeks.

Got the Honda wiring harness and hookups and got a U-Haul hitch. Had to be a little inventive and drilled some holes behind bumper to mount hookups.
