What to put in my hitch receiver?
'm going to put in the hitch wiring and a hitch receiver by myself. From reading posts, it sounds like the OEM hitch is the best. My next decision will be to choose between:
1) The dolphin reverse sensor described in another post and can be seen at Truck Fancy™ Truck & Trailer Accessory Superstore 2) A reverse camera from Costco and the SuperBumper (a rear step bumper that fits in the hitch receiver and absorbs small impacts), also discussed in prior posts. It can be seen at Superbumper.com Either way, my hope is to add safety when backing up so I don't hit anyone/anything, and also to protect my car from people who tap the rear of my car when parking, etc. The cost between option one and two are very close. I did read the thread about how a step bumper might worsen frame damage in a serious rear end collision, so I'm aware of that consideration. I would really appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, experiences that others would be willing to share. Also, I have no affiliation with either product mentioned. Thanks.

Re: What to put in my hitch receiver?
Well, I didn't get any replies, but I wanted to share my decision with everyone else. I was concerned that the Dolphin reverse sensor would be damaged by people parking and tapping the back of my car, so
I ordere the Superbumper from Jeff Mohr. I have no affiliation with Jeff Mohr, but I wanted to let people know that if you are interested in buying one of his products, give him a call or email, as he provides a significant discount and added free shipping and locking pin for me. He has been very easy to deal with. I think when all things are considered, I'm glad that my rear end will be protected from inconsiderate parkers. I've already had to pay $500 when someone hit my rear end in a parking lot. His website is Superbumper.com Once I have it in place, I'll post feedback on my experience with it.

Re: What to put in my hitch receiver?
Which one did you decide on? The Superbumper or the Sparebumper? 18" or 24"?
U paint, Black, or Chrome? I'll be looking for your feedback and pics when you get it. |

Re: What to put in my hitch receiver?
I got the Smitybuilt from Ebay at $29.95, works for me and comes in black or powder coat. Somewhere on another similar thread there is a picture I posted with the step hitch installed.
