Re: Show/Tell us what you are haulin'

I use my Ridgeline as a business truck so it gets tons of hard use for hauling things. I have a 14' x 7' tandem axle Wells Cargo trailer with a 550K BTU biodiesel fired drying furnace built inside we use to dry wet structures out and a 200 gallon tank of Biodiesel to run it...about 4500 lbs with the rest of the gear on-board. Add to that, we often remove and replace insulation when it gets to be in bad shape so the Ridge has seen up to 6 huge bundles of R-30 stacked up to the roofline and tied down. It has seen an entire bed covered in sand bags and concrete blocks for a path I'm building outside the house...boatloads of lumber, a huge load of wood flooring, about 20 sheets of DensArmor drywall (which is BLOODY heavy stuff), and it sees our big commercial dehumidifiers, drying fans, blowers, and other associated gear on a daily basis. Hasn't hiccuped yet except for the one time when we had to back our trailer up to a house...about 150' up a steep muddy hillside, with the differentials locked and we got a trans warning temp light at the end.

The best load I've put in mine was 4 pieces of 4'x12', 2 pieces 4'x10' and 3 pieces 4'x8' of drywall. I figure that’s about 625 pounds. Now, as the majority of the 12 footers were hanging past the box, the front end of the truck was a little lighter than usual.
Sorry, didn’t think of bringing the camera.
No clue about the weight. I wouldn't think anywhere near 625 lbs., though. Although, the fence boards were waterlogged from sitting outside after a rain. Like I say, the front end lifted up a little, the rear sagged a little, and there was a little bit of side-to-side swaying, but nothing alarming or unexpected. The transmission favored lower gears a little longer than usual, but I couldn't feel any loss of power.

Re: Show/Tell us what you are haulin'

The last haul I had was helping a friend move right before the New Year (and right before I got sick). It took two and a half loads between both vehicles, but we got all of the stuff he was going to move out in one day. I had my Ridgeline, and he had his little Chevy HHR.

Sorry, but I didn't get any pictures of all of the stuff that we moved but it all came out of his one bedroom townhouse. Queen bed, dressers, entertainment center, all kinds of stuff.

Re: Show/Tell us what you are haulin'

Hey all, long time no post (like since the day I bought my RL). Anyway, i picked up my boat today, and my 1st impressions of the RL as a towing vehicle are questionable. I don't have a lot of experience towing a boat (and have never towed one this large) but I felt EVERY bump in the Hwy like it was a speed bump! Engine seemed to be pretty pissed at me when I was going 65 too

Hopefully I'm overreacting, but I was expecting a little more power...

That doesn't look like a lot of weight compared to what many others tow with ease. Take a look through the 40+ pages in this thread an you'll see some heavy weight being towed without issue.

were the tires inflated to the correct tire pressure? I know the Ridge is sensitive to overinflated tires, it tends to get very bouncy/sensitive. I can imagine what it would do while towing. Go out and check the pressure, I'm betting it is around 40 psi.

Re: Show/Tell us what you are haulin'

Yea, I saw this thread before i bought the boat, and I saw some of the big bastards that people were towing, and most would say 'without problems' so that was why my expectations were high.

It's a 20'2" boat, dry weight on the rig is 1710, not sure if that is the boat only or boat and motor (weight # comes from skeeterboats.com). I think the tongue weight is about 300.

I'll check the Tires tomorrow.

Re: Show/Tell us what you are haulin'

Here is a piece of very heavy water-logged drift wood on an 16' car carrier I borrowed. Except for the 'relaxed' off the line acceleration, our Ridgeline proved to be a stable towing platform. Also showing is my compact utility trailer (just kidding!) The trailer with my '82 Honda 750 Magna in it is/was my regular hauler. I've just sold it and am picking up a new 6X10 unit. I should have it this week. And the last is a motorcycle hauler I rented in Winnipeg, Manitoba (It had Texas plates, go fig.)
