LOL!

I just have to share this. My wife had a bottle of Suave shampoo that actually stated that it was cheaper than some of the more expensive brands. Well, duh...it's cheaper than ALL of the more expensive brands. That's true for everything.

Now that's what I call truth in advertising, swampler.

Re: Post Tranny TSB - MPG effects

apparently i missed this TSB. I guess i'm not affected anyway seeings how i've already had my entire tranny replaced at 1694 miles. I did notice my mileage SUCKS. I mean, i do a lot of stop and go driving b/c i live in west hartford and people can't drive. Still, my last tank yielded 11.4mpg. I don't drive like a nutjob either so there's no explanation.

17 and driving a ridgeline. Parents seriously need to stop spoon feeding their kids and giving them expensive cars. You should be driving a beater as your first car, not a 30k + truck

30K is nowhere near an expensive car these days. It is middle of the road. Why would you want to put your kid in a death trap when you can have them safe in a fairly large, nimble, useful vehicle. The RL is not a hot rod and so probably wouldn't be driven like one. All in all, I think it is an excellant first vehicle if the parents can afford it.

Me. I have owned enough beaters to know how safe they are or aren't.

I beg to differ BillB.
Firstly, I have a daughter who will be driving in a year or so. We have taken the RL to the parking lot numerous times and she has real trouble with parking and getting around corners. The 06 civic, on the other hand, she has no problems with. The 03 Odyssey she really drives well. This truck is not easy to see the "four corners" or to park. Experience is the best teacher and a typical 17 year old has none. A beater is a great first car. You can bang it up in the lot or run it into a ditch and the parents are not out more than a few thousand dollars. Can a kid appreciate a truck like ours? I doubt it. I am from the old school where my kids will get a part time job and pay as much as they can on their car to learn some responsibility and how things work as an adult. They can pay for gas and some on insurance and car payment. If they tear it up (tires, dents, etc) they can help fix it or help pay to fix it. If I gave them a new truck like ours how can they hope to pay for anything more than gas? How can they learn to appreciate the decent things if they are handed stuff to begin with? And lastly, while I'm sure a few 20 somethings are driving a $34,000 dollar truck, most are not. Sorry for the rant, and a 1998 civic, for example, with a few dents and 80,000 miles is a beater. Not some 1979 Ford Pinto or Gremlin or Chevette. A good used Honda, Toyota or something like that is still mechanically sound even if it looks kinda rough. No "death trap" for my kids.

So you don't think the average car has become safer over the years? I think a larger vehicle invites kids to pile all their friends in there and possibly be distracted. It also might make them become complacent. Perhaps even add to the idea video games have given them that you just run over anything in your path.
