No Water Leaks Yet But.....

Hey gang. I would like to get your thoughts on the water leak issue.

I have had my RL since May but I only have 3000 miles on it. I have washed it many times by hand and also taken it through car washes and no leaks yet. Last week was the first time that I actually drove through rain and it did sit out in the rain for a couple of hours. No leaks. It is a April 2006 build date. At what point will the leaks show up if I am going to get them? Am I out of the woods or am I just going to be paranoid about this forever? I might add that I have had no problems of any kind and love driving my RL.

Check under the front passenger side carpet, if it is damp you got it.

Remove sill after opening door straight up and pull off kick plate, slide hand under rug...........and pray.

Read my prior post for my experience.

Re: No Water Leaks Yet But.....

The leaks are random. I have an April 2005 build date, which seems to be one of the build date months that had a lot of leaks, but I've had no trouble. I know that Truckin'/BigGuy have an April 2005 build date, too, but they've had no leaks. There's an older poll on here somewhere about water leaks and build dates, and you could look at that and see if April 2006 was a big month for leaks, but that won't mean your truck will leak.

If you can get your dealer to do some of the leak TSB work BEFORE you find a leak, that'd give you some peace of mind. I had the A pillar TSB performed, just in case. But I still check my carpets periodically, just to be sure.

Re: No Water Leaks Yet But.....

I guess that my question is really for the unfortunate owners that do have the water leak issue. What I am asking is if your leak showed up right away after it was exposed to rain or carwashes, or was it wet a few times before you noticed it inside the cab? Thanks for your input.

Bought my RL March 13, 2005. Noticed it after leaving it parked in the sun at the airport, first few warm days of June. Smelled musty when I got home.

Re: No Water Leaks Yet But.....

I have been reading posts from 2007 RL owners that are still having water leak issues. I am on my third Honda and love them all. But please tell me, why all of the leaks? Does the design of the RL make it prone to leaks? No leaks for me yet, but I must admit, everytime I drive it in the rain, I check the carpet. I guess that I will do this as long as I own it, which I hope is a very long time.

Re: No Water Leaks Yet But.....

The TSB in not complete.

There are some plastic clips that fit through the body (round holes) that hold wires in place in the same area the TSB addresses, near the VTM module, that let water in.

I filled them with silicone and tossed the clips aside, they did not do much, and I supported the wires with straps.

This fixed the problem that the dealer could not fix entirely, they only follow the TSB which does not address this as a contributing factor also.

Very simple! I do not know why Honda still has not gotten it right, after all they make the truck. I am not a genius, I just followed the leak.

Can you provide any pictures? I'm sure there are a lot of us that would like to do it to our RL. Thanks.
