Water Leak Test

The weather guru's are calling for 3"-5" of rain this weekend in Louisville. In fact, it's raining right now. I just backed my RL out of a perfectly dry garage and parked it at the back of my driveway. I'm going to let it sit there all weekend and see if I have any leaks. After many carwashes, no leaks to report yet.

Do you guys think this is a valid test, or do I need to be driving it in rain for the leaks to show up? Thanks.

Re: Water Leak Test

You might be able to test the C-pillar leak by just letting it sit in the rain (if the truck is sitting at the right angle; can't remember for sure but I think the nose of the truck needs to be elevated), but in most other cases (A-pillar leak, and other undercarriage leaks) water needs to splash up from underneath the truck for some time before finding its way into the cab.
There is a specific leak test for the A-pillar leak spelled out in the TSB. Not sure if other leaks have such definitive tests though.

Re: Water Leak Test

Pop the hood and you will see an opening in the fender wall towards the rear of the engine bay. This is where the water gets into the fender. Take a garden hose and put water in through this hole and you will test the fender drain. Very quick and easy to do.
