Re: Steering Wheel Creak

I had a steering wheel creak on my 2007 RTX. My dealer determined it was the "Cable Real" that was loose and they replaced it. Service Manager told me that this problem has been an issue with the Honda Elements more then the Ridgelines. They also did the TSB as well just to make sure it was not both that was causing the creaking noise. What they did solved the problem on my RTX.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

I checked my creak more today. I can't get it to creak pushing on the steering wheel, it actually occurs only when making a turn. It starts when the steering wheel is upside down. For example, let's call positions on the steering wheel when driving straight by clock positions.
So, when making a left turn, when the wheel's 3 o'clock position reaches 9 o'clock the creak starts and ends at the 6 o'clock position.

In other words, no creak for the first 180 degree of rotation, then creak for 90 degrees. Same occurs when making a right turn. I'll let the dealer listen, it's a very quiet noise, but noticeable.

Yep, exactly what my service garage did for my RTL's steering wheel creak. Took them a couple times to get it right but, since the last time they attempted to fix it, I have not have the squeak. Now, if they could just get rid of the moon-roof rattle and whistle....but that's another thread....

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

I started this thread many months ago. After a couple of months the steering wheel creak was back, but I was too lazy to take it back in again (for the third time).
I was reading up and found that there was an updated TSB for this problem that involved greasing the locating pins. I decided to try it myself. And within 15 minutes the problem was gone. I did not have the urea grease, but a small amount of lithium grease seemed to do the trick. The only thing is that the TSB says to replace the airbag bolts, but I used the same ones...I don't think that should be a problem.
Now that the creak is gone (hopefully for good) the ride is much quieter.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

My dealer has made 3 attempts that worked for a while each time and each time it has returned. It's back again so hoping the 4th try does it.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

I posted to this thread back in July. No one commented. I said that I gave my creaky wheel a shot of WD-40. I still have no squeak.
If it ever returns, then I'll do the tsb.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

I had my squeak fixed back in '06. But it's back. I'm going to try the dealer again. I'm about 800 miles out of warranty, but took it in before the 36K mark and the service manager said no problem.

Also to the guy who asked about the clunk right after you get going, there is another thread here somewhere dating back a couple of years addressing this. It's something natural to the Ridge, I've forgotten what, but it happens to mine too and all is well, other than the squeak, at 36K plus.

Happy motoring.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

I hate to read this thread! I've had my steering wheel creak fixed four times. Each time it goes away for a while, but then comes back. I do my best to ignore it, but after I read these threads it starts bothering me again.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

35,000 miles since I performed the ultra high tech creak repair with the Remington gun oil and I'm still creak free! I mean my steering wheel is, I have a few squeaks and creaks that my nightly lubrication does not take care of.
