Re: Steering Wheel Creak

Just got mine back from the dealer.
Replace the steering wheel (cracking / peeling) AND they fixed the creak.
so far so good, noise free.

Now if I can find the other rattles.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

I had mine "fixed" early on in my RL's life. It was gone for a short while, then came back (but not as bad). As I've been driving, it seems to have gone away with normal wear and tear... I'm at about 18k miles now.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

I had steering wheel creak but it went away just as I rounded 5000 miles on the odometer. I may still mention it next tuesday when I go in for the other repairs that the truck needs and have them check if it falls into the vin range and do it regardless if it's currently creaking or not.

I really can't stand creaks, rattles etc. It just makes me want to pull my hair out evertime I hear a creak or rattle from a new vehicle

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

Had mine fixed over a year ago, still have the issue. Actually got rid of the squeak but have had a rattle in stearing wheel that they can not get rid of and has been driving me crazy. Even rode with tech in car who acted like he couldn't hear the rattle that myself and everyone else who rides in my truck can hear. It is so irritating at times I want to trade in my truck.

For the rattle in the steering wheel, try removing the small access pane on the bottom of the steering wheels housing and then turn the wheel back and forth to see if something falls out. I cured my squeak (After the dealer tried twice) by placing three layers of adhesive backed felt pad under the top edge of horn cover (Betweek the top edge of the sterring wheel housing and under the top edge of the horn cover. Then I carefully cut the felt pad to shape with and exacto knife. No more squeak. I found the adhesive backed felt pads at Lowes and Home Depot.

For the record, you can not see the felt padding unless you lean over the steering wheel and look for it.

Good luck.

Re: Steering Wheel Creak

Honda played the dumb card with me too on this creak deal. Took in my own hands and gave a small shot of maguires interior conditioner like amoral on the left and right side on the horn pad in the crack between the wheel and the pad and creak gone in seconds with a few pulls of the wheel back and forth. The was almost 2 years ago and no creak!

You mean between the steering wheel and the airbag? I would assume that the conditioner is safe, but I'd be a bit leary about any of it getting into any of the electronics or connectors for the airbag and causing it to not operate properly. However if the airbag light has never come on then it must have done no harm to it would be my guess.

For the moment Im just turning up the stereo since even the advisor at the dealership near us admits that once they start chasing creaks and groans, they can often times make it worse than it was before taking it in, so I'll live with the noises in the truck until the warranty is close to expiration then try to get them all taken care of at once, and that way when the truck leaves warranty if the noises have been made worse I'll just sell the vehicle.
