Re: Annoying Drivers Door Ding when Key is in Ignition

First off, folks, Electrotech hasn't posted here in over 2 months, but if he's lurking, I hope for a follow-up. Have you noticed anything amiss after that length of time?

As the lowest-possible-tech solution, years ago you could buy little screw-on arms that could be twisted over the plunger switch on the door to silence dingers. Do they still make those things?

And, Andy, where is the accursed dinger module? I have no use for that monster whatsoever, except for the annoyance factor. I think wrapping it in 4" of high density soundproofing material might not even help

Re: Annoying Drivers Door Ding when Key is in Ignition

The Beeper is integrated within the gauge control module and is part of the instrument cluster. It is tied in with all safety indicators so that should any severe problem occur while driving, the beeper will function.

Some of it's many audible functions include seat belt reminder, key in ignition reminder, back window open alert, etc...

Disabling or muffling it requires removal of the gauge control module from the truck's dashboard followed by a bench disassembly or "dissection", as known in layman's terms. The beeper should be found soldered onto the board and resembles a cylindrical horn possessing a piezo speaker with a small aperture from where the sound exits.

To muffle the sound, try using a dab of silicone sealant onto the aperture opening.

MikeT has a sample instrument cluster that he mysteriously obtained from a knowledgeable Honda guru. Perhaps he can take and post a few pictures of the disassembled module for our viewing? Mike?

How about the "lights on" ding? for those of us who leave our lights in the on position? Actually, that particular ding dong has been around since the 70's I believe...

Honda, please give us an option to override this feature when needed.
For listening to the radio with doors open, I usually just put the key in the "on" position. No more "ding, ding". I also turn off all other accessories like the heater/ac blower that are not needed at the time.
Can someone tell me if this is not a good idea? Thanks.

I spent a lot of time in Japan and I loved to go to the Pachinko parlors and play. The ding ding ding brings back fond memories !
