Annoying Drivers Door Ding when Key is in Ignition Modification
Well my first post and here it goes.
First off let me say that I HATE the door ding when the key is in the ignition! I know it is there for a reason BUT, I still hate it anyway so I bypassed it. What I did was remove the steering wheel shroud and found the wire that told the computer that there was a key in the Ignition(12V dc when key is installed). I removed the red w/white stripe wire form the 6 wire harness that is at the ignition. Once the wire was removed i taped the wire back so it was out of position and inoperable!! I found that now everything works as factory including the alarm and I have NO MORE DINGING!!!!!! Any questions just ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Annoying Drivers Door Ding when Key is in Ignition
Very nice mod!
![]() The chime doesn't bother me so much but it's a good solution to eliminating an annoying ding for those who don't want to hear it.

Re: Annoying Drivers Door Ding when Key is in Ignition
I'm with you. I hate that thing also. I posted the Q and someone told me "why don't you just take the key out" duh! Around here, a mod is adding floor mats.
Anyway, did you test the windows etc as the other guy suggested? Were you able to locate the source of the noise? I'd rather deactivate IT. How do I remove the steering wheel shroud? TomJV |

Re: Annoying Drivers Door Ding when Key is in Ignition
The automatic lights works just fine so I leave the light switch on at all times, then why is it that still dings when the keys are out before I close the door? I could see the use of the dinging when keys are in, but not when they are out, it makes me think there is something wrong. Just bothers me that using a feature (automatic headlights) gets you ding ding ding ding, then what's the purpose of it?

Re: Annoying Drivers Door Ding when Key is in Ignition
Welcome to you Electrotec!!! I'm with you on this one. It can be really annoying to be unable to silence that ding when we try to listen to the radio with the door open. Like cleaning the interior in our driveway in the summer.
Honda, please give us an option to override this feature when needed. ![]() |

Re: Annoying Drivers Door Ding when Key is in Ignition
Hi Electrotech.
Welcome to the posting minority. I hate the ding, too, but I've opted to put up with it. It's done it's job more than once, as I've forgotten to take my keys with me as I exited the truck. Would have hated to have left them in the truck, especially since then the doors wouldn't lock with the driver's door open. I'm in the habit of using the master switch on the driver's door to lock all the doors when I get out. With the key in the ignition, and the driver's door open, that master switch, as well as the passenger door's master switch, is disabled. I was parked in front of a bar, in, might I say, a "less-than-secure area" where someone seeing keys in the ignition of a new, unlocked Ridgeline might have been too tempted. Thankfully I heard the ding.Maybe I'd use your mod with an inline switch to temporarily disable the ding, but I don't think I'd want it that way permanently. Andy? Were you referring to the 10 minute ability to raise/lower the windows after turning-off the ignition (if no front door is opened)? I use that sometimes in the summer heat/rains while waiting for/picking-up friends.
