Make : HONDA Model : CIVIC Year : 2006
Manufacturer : HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
Crash : Yes Fire : No Number of Injuries: 1
ODI ID Number : 10164263 Number of Deaths: 0
Date of Failure: July 16, 2006
VIN : 1HGFA16556L...
Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Summary:
I BOUGHT A 2006 HONDA CIVIC LX ON 02/21/06. I WAS AT THE MALL ON DATE BELOW AND WENT TO BACK OUT OF MY SPACE, WHEN A VAN BACKED OUT AND WE HIT BUMPERS. I WAS GOING TO PULL BACK INTO MY SPOT TO SEE THE DAMAGE AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE, IT TOOK OFF LIKE A ROCKET AND WOULD NOT STOP...I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE TRYING TO STOP IT, AND IT WOULD NOT STOP. I HIT A 2006 COBALT, MY CAR FLIPPED OVER ONTO ITS SIDE HIT A 2003 CHEVY DRIVING IN BETWEEN THESE TWO PARKED CARS . I THEN DROVE OVER THE COBALT AND WHEN I CAME TO THE END OF THESE CARS, MY CAR CAME OUT OF THEM AND FLEW THROUGH THE AIR OVER INTO THE PARKING SPACE ACROSS THE PARKING LOT. THE DEPUTY SHERIFF AND HIS SERGEANT CAME TO THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT AND SAID THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THAT HONDA CIVIC COULD HAVE DONE WHAT IT DID AND TO DRIVE OVER THE COBALT WITHOUT SOMETHING BEING WRONG WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL OR THE COMPUTER. I WENT ONTO HONDA'S WEB SITE AND FOUND THAT HONDA CIVICS WERE ON A RECALL FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDALS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE RECALL, AND THE NEW CAR MANAGER TOLD ME IT WAS FOR THE TWO DOOR CIVICS ONLY, AND MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE TURNED THE KEY OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I THEN CALLED THE GENERAL MANAGER AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND TOLD HMI WHAT HAPPENED AND HIS COMMENT WAS "THAT WAS VERY UNFORTUNATE". I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HONDA SINCE THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT HONDA, AND THEY SAY THEY WILL CALL BACK, BUT NEVER DO. I DON'T WANT THIS CAR AND I DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD PAY FOR THIS DEATH TRAP OF A VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE NOW. I WANTED HONDA TO KNOW THAT THE 4 DOOR CIVIC'S SHOULD BE ON A RECALL ALSO. I THINK HONDA IS NOT GOING TO STAND UP AND SAY THERE'S A PROBLEM. I KNOW WHAT I DID THAT DAY, AND I KNOW THAT THAT CIVIC COULD NOT HAVE DONE WHAT IT DID IN THAT SHORT DISTANCE WITHOUT SOMETHING GOING WRONG SOMEWHERE IN THAT CAR. *NM

Actually, the accident itself did the owner a favor by scrapping this poor excuse of a vehicle that Chrysler should never have introduced to the public in the first place!

Did you notice that the FL wheel is the space-saver spare?

Well there's your problem right there, a leprechaun in the muffler.

Have you seen most of what GM, Ford, and Chrysler design? Their designers seem to see-saw between either out-uglying each other or out-blanding each other. I and many others think the Ridgeline is a great looking truck. Why are you driving something you think is so ugly?

I was referring to the oem rims that are standard issue on our trucks. They may have been designed to be an integrated structural component to the entire assembly as a whole but I still find them to be butt ugly.

Part of the reason why I run 20's during the summer months.

Re: Consumer Complaints on Honda Ridgeline

His Civic drove over the Cobalt??? I didn't think the Civic even had VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist). ...... .

Even with a running start at full speed, I don't think even my Ridgeline would run over a cobalt. I didn't know what I was going to do today, but now I'm driving around looking for a Cobalt.

Re: Consumer Complaints on Honda Ridgeline

complaints huh,? Ill have to think hard about that.

Lets see, all very insignificant in the grand scheme of things:

#1 thin paint - it is what it is.

#2 head light bulbs burn out easily - going on my 2nd right headlight bulb, and have replaced the left one once as well. At least now the dealership has the bulbs in stock.

#3 Thin windshield glass, replaced one, and already a small chip on the replacement.

Thats all I have come across in 2+ years, and 120,000+ miles.

Re: Consumer Complaints on Honda Ridgeline

One verified problem that wasn't reported to the group was in regard to my co-worker's Ridgeline - Fall 2005 build date I believe. This spring, temp gauge came on while cornering once or twice over a couple days. Check engine light came on briefly once. Coolant level checked out ok by the DEALERSHIP (Della Honda, Plattsburgh, NY) and car was released. Next week, one of the head gaskets blew, resulting in a ruined vacation. Della repaired the engine under warranty - took about 10 days. But she had to raise Hell to get them to give her a loaner that was 4wd and capable of towing her boat in the meantime.

This is about the only failed head gasket I've heard of for this engine.
