Consumer Complaints on Honda Ridgeline

Just received this e-letter from CarFax's consumer complaint dep't (MyCarStats.com) outlining several new registered complaints from RL owners: http://www.mycarstats.com/safetystation.asp

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10213809
Component: WHEELS:RIM
Details: WE HAVE HAD TWO FAILURES OF THE WHEEL ON THE HONDA RIDGELINE. ONE CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. THE OTHER WHEEL IS CRACKED IN THE TIRE BEAD AREA AND WE WILL NOT DRIVE IT DUE TO THE CONCERN FOR OUR SAFETY. *CN

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10214819
Component: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:SWITCH/WIRING
Details: FOR THE SECOND TIME ON LESS THEN A YEAR (DESPITE REPAIRS) THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS COMPLETELY FAILED IN HEAVY SNOW, DISABLING THE VEHICLE. *TR

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10216065
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:INTERIOR/UNDER DASH
Details: MOMENTS AFTER DROPPING MY SON OFF AT SCHOOL RETURNING BACK HOME, I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE FAR RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE VENT. I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, LIFTED THE HOOD -SAW NOTHING- CLOSED THE HOOD, WENT TO PASSENGER SIDE, LOOKED IN AC VENT NOTICING FLAME WHICH THEN RAPIDLY SPREAD THROUGH THE DASH BOARD ENGULFING THE TRUCK. FIRE DEPT. CAME AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. I REALLY ENJOYED THE TRUCK BUT FEEL THERE IS SOME KIND OF DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. *TR

This is the first time I've heard about the rims failing. These things are so butt-ugly and tough looking, the only thing I could think of was their failing due to the owner jumping sidewalks!

Re: Consumer Complaints on Honda Ridgeline

I guess there will always be isolated incidents so it will be interesting to see if there are additional complaints of similar nature. It seems that we (ROC-Heads) would already know if these were common issues since we are on the bleeding edge when it comes to experiencing and reporting defects.

The particular website you referenced takes complaints... you can read about people complaining about everything. 99.99999% of the complaints on that site result in nothing. but it makes the complainer feel good about themselves.

So maybe that site is a Troll Zoo.... A place to go and admire the creatures in a setting where all out war won't erupt...

Re: Consumer Complaints on Honda Ridgeline

When I first joined the ROC I remember a ROC member telling about his RL and a fire in the vent system. I think he was a firefighter if I remember correctly. I wonder if the third complaint was him?

The owner of my former place of employment had his pilot catch on fire in the dash. Happened up in Indy, Penske Honda fixed it though.. He liked that pilot so much, he bought another one for his wife.

I wonder how much of the wiring is shared between the Pilot and Ridgeline.

Re: Consumer Complaints on Honda Ridgeline

I think if you took any vehicle sold in America, you'd find problems and complaints about something along the way. My uneducated guess is that there are 2-4% of the people out there who have had a problem with ANY auto sold. I'll stick with the overall rating, and know my Ridgeline is one of the most reliable, safest vehicles sold anywhere. (And hope my RL doesn't catch on fire!)

Re: Consumer Complaints on Honda Ridgeline

People complain about everything! The problem is it drowns out all the major issues that are out there. The ones that effect safety worry me. Rim failure I find hard to believe but plausible. But the snow and the wiper system incompatibility I have experienced. Fire...er...not good when "in the car" (tailgating OK).

Just remember unless Jesus built your car, its going to fail eventually. But a door rattle is nothing compaired to a tie rod failure. I wish people would keep a perspective on what is a real issue to complain about. But I realize we all have our Charlie Brown moments of "good grief"...like tonight when the Devils got eliminated by the Rangers (bums).

I dunno, how many dash fires have you heard of in the RL?

I understand your recent... issues... have slanted your view and all, but can we stop with the reaching for issues that don't, by all accounts, even exist?
