Wind noise TSB

I got my new 08 RT up on the highway today for the first time. I turned the radio off and I could here a moderate wind howling noise coming from what seemed like the front windshield. It was loud enough for me to hear it over the conversation I was having with my step-father in the seat next to me. How do I know if this is the wind noise TSB that is listed on this site that was supposed to be fixed? Really don't want to have to bring this brand new honda right back to the dealer already.

What exactly does the noise sound like? At what speed do you hear it? Is it constant or does it vary w/speed. I have an 08 that makes a "noise" on the highway as well. Not sure if it's wind though. Had it at the dealer twice already with no difinitive diagnosis...

Mine didn't seem to be consistent, but when i got into and open area with a stiff cross breese it seemed to howl a bit. I will have to get a few more miles no the highway listening careful before i can try to see if it is an issue or not.

Re: Wind noise TSB

I get like a whooooo... noise. Almost like blowing across the top of a bottle. It's actually not that loud, it just has a different "harmonic" to it that stands out from any other noise including the radio. I've tried taping all the seems on my windshield... still noise. Mine happens at 63 - 65 mph. Pretty constant....
Techs and service manager heard it... looked the truck over for a day. Came up with nothing difinitive. They thought it might be a wheel bearing so the replaced driver's rear..That wasn't it...I'm living with it for now.. I can't stand leaving the truck and having a bunch of guys driving it around to see if they can hear/figure it out... Truck also runs fine otherwise... W'ell see..

Re: Wind noise TSB

Do you have a roof rack?

Try taping over the gap between the third taillight garnish and the roof next.

No roof rack. I did try the rear panel seam you mentioned as well as the windshield. I did them independently of each other as well. Noise with both.

Re: Wind noise TSB

I have bad news for anyone thinking that wind noise problem has been solved with newer models of Ridgeline. I had a significant problem with my first Ridgeline, a 2006 RTS, and had the windshield TSB applied all the way through to a full glass replacement. This partially solved my noise problem by removing the howling blowing over the bottle sound and replaced it with a less obnoxious, but quite evident, wind hitting an uneven surface whooshing noise. Well, one of the things I was looking forward to in getting my new 2008 RTS was an improvement in the noise level the windshield makes and I did a very thorough inspection of the trim install on the new truck, and even though it was cleaner and tighter to the metal frame, it still was not perfect. There were evident gaps and tolerances were not as perfect as it needs to be to eliminate noise problems. I looked at a half dozen Ridgelines at the dealer and all the 2008s had this poor attention to tolerances of the windshield molding, so I just took the truck knowing that it was not going to give me "peace" of mind, and sure enough the wind noise is still quitre evident in the 2008 edition.

Maybe I just don't have an ear for this wind noise. Probably due to way to much rock and roll during the 70's. Although I think I have a pretty good ear. I'm Farley picky about rattles and noises in my truck. That drives my wife crazy(er). Could the bug shield on the front of my RL be making that noise go away by changing the aerodynamics? I guess I'm glad I don't hear it but just wondering why?

I was there in the 70s also, but my truck generates enough wind noise that even Led Zeppelin can't make go away. Its there, you may just be used to hearing this type of noise from your prior vehicles and have accepted it as a way of driving life. But trust me that if you had a really quiet vehicle before, the difference is annoying at best and disturbing at worst.
