Re: Can anyone explain what these tools are for?
The "hammer drill" mode on your Makita is used with masonry bits for drilling into concrete, brick, or stone. It imparts sharp blows to the drill as it rotates just as the name implies. You will not feel any hammer action while the drill is operated unloaded. When you bear down it will vibrate strongly as it drills. Never use this mode with a regular drill bit.
Your cordless impact driver is an electrically driven, less powerful version of the pneumatic impact wrench you have probably seen used for lug nuts at tire shops. The type you have is mostly used for loosening stuck nuts & bolts. Congratulations, Makita makes good tools that will last the casual user a lifetime. |

Re: Can anyone explain what these tools are for?
Hey Deep, sounds like a pertty nice combo set you got there!
The hammer drill is what you would use when drilling into concrete, block, or any other masonary type material. A hammer drill spins the chuck like a regular drill but hammers the drill longitudinally. (make sure to use a carbide tipped drill bit for this type of work) The impact wrench is what you would use loosening/tightening bolts/screws/whatever. An impact wrench just uses blows to spin the chuck (well, the square stub that sticks out the front of the impact wrench). Hope this helps...Enjoy those new tools! |

Re: Can anyone explain what these tools are for?
Thanks for the explanations! And Chris, thanks for your kind offer.
It sounds like the "car guys" show where they present the week's puzzler and suggest you send your response on the back of a delta 50 inch table saw with unifence system, three point locking system and hairline pointer with built in steel tape...or you can just email us your answer. Anyway, it's very nice to have a community of people like the ROC. I wish I had friends like you guys in "real life". Maybe I'm just getting sentimental because it's a new year, or maybe I'm just going crazy from all this snow in NH after living in Florida for 15 years!!!!
