Need Nerd Help, Please!
I've just purchased my first laptop. Been busy setting up all the things one has to do to get a new computer up-and-going. While I was setting up my Outlook Express, I decided I wanted it password protected, so I entered a password. I did a few other things before trying to pull up my O.E., but when I did, it wouldn't accept the password. When it originally asked for a word, it didn't make me confirm it to verify proper spelling.............so, you guessed it, I must have misspelled the password.
I've tried every way of spelling the word that I can and can't come up with a solution. I tried for two and a half hours last night with no luck. I know there is an easy way to go through a "back door" to find the password I've chosen. Something similar happened to me a couple of years ago and a forum member (another forum) sent me a PM and gave me the solution. It worked! But I was too stupid to write it down, thinking I'd never do that again!!!!!!! (yea, right!) Any of you computer guru's (nerds) know how to do it?

Re: Need Nerd Help, Please!
Here are some products that do that..
Look for the ones with the free trial.. I just googled on "recovering a lost password for outlook express" Download Password Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express Free Trial - Tool for recovering forgotten or lost passwords to Outlook Express mail and news accounts. The program recovers passwords to... How to Recover Lost Outlook Express Mail Password How to Recover Passwords for Outlook Express |

Re: Need Nerd Help, Please!
Why did I immediately click this link when I saw it in New Posts?
![]() A true geek answer for this question is, "Install Thunderbird & ditch Outlook Express," I think. Heck, I run Internet Exploder in a tab inside Firefox! For that matter, I once installed cygwin so I could run the Linux version of Firefox in Windows, so I'm probably pretty hopeless... If you do have a lost password, the tools OwnerCS linked will work. But you can probably delete something in Documents & Settings or the registry that will erase your previous mistake anyway.

![]() I actually use (Win version) Firefox Portable and Thunderbird Portable as apps on a 160GB USB Drive. All my FF bookmarks and cookies are self contained to the USB Drive. All my email accounts can be checked from any computer I'm at with nothing left on the computer used. It's great to check my Cox, hotmail, gmail and yahoo (and other) accounts in one place, anywhere I'm at! ![]() Anyway, to ChrisC - if you simply forgot the password to the email account, then your provider can change it. If you added a password to your *.pst file, well there are tools for that too! ![]() |

Re: Need Nerd Help, Please!
If it's a POP or IMAP account that is password protected, just call your ISP and have them reset it. You can change it later on their end and yours.

Re: Need Nerd Help, Please!
I wish I'd seen this thread yesterday! I'd have pointed out that in this crowd, you might get better response by asking for help from Geeks, than from Nerds. After all, Geeks are more socially adept, non-pocket-protector-wearing nerds with an intense interest in solving problems...
