Impressed with hauling

For potential buyers out there, I just thought I'd post this up here. And also to reflect that I am not just a honda cheerleader, let me tell you that about 2 months ago, I would have been one of the Hemi guys going on about how the RL is NOT a "real truck".

I am a DIY'er that wanted a truck so I didnt have to pay to have things delivered. I did a ton of research but I didnt really anticipate the v6 in the RL to perform so well with heavy loads. I got my RL on Thursday, and I just did a weekend project that involved brick, slate and sod, and there was never a time I was nervous about the truck not being able to handle it, or about a lack of braking, and most suprisingly, the V6 has more than enough torque. I also found the truck did not sag either. I should have snapped some pictures.

I dont load the truck beyonds its recommended capacity, which I believe is 1,550 lbs. I think the most I had in it was 1,300 in the bed and I did 6 trips (the distributor is local, thankfully). But it handled that weight without issue or concern.

If anyone had any question whether this truck can do what Honda says it can do, I just thought I'd post this to confirm that it does.

I just pulled about 2100 lbs with my new RTX and barely knew the trailer was behind me.

I believe the towing weight is 5000 lbs.
But the carrying weight (cargo, occupants, etc.) is 1500 lbs.
I also have never had a problem.
Remember suggested premium gas when towing.

Honda lists the bed weight limit as 1100 poounds with the additional weight of 450 pounds being distributed inside the cab or trunk.

The total cargo capacity with four passengers is 1550 pounds.

Re: Impressed with hauling

About 2 weeks after I got my '08 RTL, I hauled a full load of firewood to a freind's house. No idea what the weight was, but I was amazed at how the RL didn't drive any differently with a full load. I couldn't even tell I had anything in the bed. I won't be doing much heavy hauling, and currently have no plans to tow anything. But it's nice to know when those tasks are needed, the Ridgeline steps right up and delivers. No doubt about it, it's a great truck.

I had 1450 pounds of cement in the bed. The rear sagged like crazy but it never bottomed out. The hood was sticking up like a dragster just off the line.

The premium reccomendation is for towing over 3500lbs.

I also carried 1140 lbs of 36" diamond saw blades in her and she rode like a dream. I stood up 12 in the back of the cab and 9 laid down in the bed with a cargo net. What a ride!

Thanks for being honest. I to have hauled several loades of oak and have had the same effect (unless your carrying dried out balsa wood) . I've also pulled sleds and atv's and to say I could hardley feel the difference is B as in bull and S as in s^*!. I've said it before and will again, I can feel my trailer behind me empty and could with all my other trucks. So if you cant feel a trailer behind you then youve probley never pulled one before or your ? . This is not a put down to the RL just being realistic.

Re: Impressed with hauling

I've pulled trailers for 20 years. Some with more weight and some with less. Some with more powerful trucks and some with less. Overall, I'll put the ridge up with anything I've towed with before. That was my point...not that I really didn't know there was anything behind me. That's the problem with posting as opposed to conversation. Some people only see the black on the white.

Re: Impressed with hauling

I hauled 2 yards of mulch this weekend no problem at all. Made two trips for a total of 4 yards.
