Invoice

When speaking of "invoice price", what price exactly are you referencing? I'm new to the world of new cars, but I hear distinctions between Dealer Invoice vs. Real Invoice.

I'm guessing that all references to "under invoice" imply the Dealer Invoice, which they should disclose fairly easily. The real invoice (what the dealer paid the manufacturer for the vehicle) is probably kept a little more under the radar.

Please improve my knowledge on this subject. Also, what is typically seen as a fair price for both buyer and seller? (I know this would very greatly with the popularity of the vehicle. For this case, consider the Ridgeline as a vehicle the Dealer wants to / needs help unloading)

Re: Invoice

There are tons of treatises on the net regarding car buying. Someone will surely post some for you. One of the best sites is edmunds.com.

There is the dealer invoice price set my the manufacturer for the region you live in, and then there is the price that the dealer actually pays for it, depending on the volume that they sell.

There are usually three components to the deal:

1) Cost of the new vehicle
2) Price for my trade-in
3) Financing rate

I always negotiate each one separately, then if combining makes sense in the final negotiation, that's ok.

With the Ridgeline, they are practically paying you to take it away so the standard tactics won't be needed, but follow the 3 step plan above and you'll get your best deal.

Do not worry about achieving your optimum fuel economy until you get the vehicle broke-in according to the recommended guidelines described in your owners manual."
