Performance in snow
The great deals right now have me seriously considering a Ridgeline but need to know how it performs on snow/ice. I live in the mountains and have a 2 mile drive on a dirt road with about 1,000 feet elevation gain to my house. The roads get plowed but always have a layer of ice, and often 4 inches of snow, occasionaly 8 or so before it gets plowed.
One concern I have is with lack of low range and auto transmission with steep inclines on ice, is the traction control suffiecient going downhill? Can it handle uphill in say 4-6 inches? I own an old Wrangler for when things get serious, so most days would be only ice or a few inches of snow. Anybody do this type of snow driving in their Ridgeline? Also I do a lot of forest service road driving to fishing and hunting spots, but this is mainly just washboard, not seriously 4-wheel. How's the handling on washboard roads? Thanks! |

Re: Performance in snow
My friend who got me interesting in a ridgeline (he has an 06 RT) took us to a cabin in Vermont, located on a fairly steep unpaved road for about three miles. He let me drive a coupe times and i have to say i was thoroughly impressed with the ridgeline's snow driving ability on an unplowed tertiary road, and all the other roads for that matter.
I also have read countless times here on the ridgeline's wonderful snow driving capabilities.

Re: Performance in snow
I drove our Ridgeline extensively in snowy conditions in Northern PA this winter and have never seen any vehicle do as well. Good judgment and the Ridgeline with get you where you want to go. Personally, if I was driving that much on ice I would use low profile chains to help as much with braking as traction.
In my opinion, the Ridgeline has some serious shortcomings, but it is outstanding in bad weather driving. Hope this helps.
