Remote Start using just the Key

Does anyone know what remote start I can get so I can use the buttons on the key and not carry a fob?

Thanks

Re: Remote Start using just the Key

Before going any further, do you understand that you'll have to suffer the horriblly short range that the factory key/remote offers? At that distance it's almost not worth it.

I spent a lot of time and effort to make the PANIC button on the switchblade remote to my VW Passat start the car. But because the range was so short I wasn't able to use it from inside my house or work. I overlooked the short range and afterwards I felt like I wasted my time.

By using an aftermarket remote you'll be able to start your car from hundreds of feet away, and thru buildings.

i used a stellar remote starter and stellar transponder, bought both off ebay for about $120 shipped, and wired it with my buddy..
i liked the fact that it works off the factory key and the price was very decent, and it does a good job.
i didnt need it to start from 3 miles away from a different town, or different zipcode like some other member require from their remote starters.
(no offense guys)

good luck!

Do you understand that there is a lot of gray area between the 3 miles/different zipcode that you quoted and the 30-40 feet that the factory remote works?

Most people want to be able to use their remote starter to start the car from inside their house or inside their workplace (100-250 feet). Most factory remotes won't work that distance.

Works for me too. It's maybe 20ft from my front door and my driveway and about 30 from my office window to where I park. I just got tired of walking outside to start it every morning in the winter.

If I'd just get rid of some stuff I could probably fit it in my garage, but where's the fun in that?

Re: Remote Start using just the Key

Do a search as many of us have done this. There might be different ways, but I used a PKH-34 and the DEI starter module 561T. I used the unlock pulses to trigger the starting feature. Some have used the lock pulse, but then you have to manually unlock the door to get into the car as the remote doesn't work once the car starts. Everyone has difference usages, I don't need 100 mile range to start my truck, the 20-30ft is good enough for me.

Re: Remote Start using just the Key

Is there any way to be able to start the RL remotely with the factory key, but still have it locked, AND use the remote to get in?

I'd hate to have my doors unlocked when I'm not there (GPS thieves are always in the shadows!) but I'd also hate to have to go back to using a key to open the door.
