Be careful who you trust

Please note: This thread has nothing to do with group buys.
I first want to start off by saying this is an incredible board and most of the people here are first rate. When I saw what was going on with Truckin's niece last week I jumped in even though my wife warned about the possibility of a scam. I explained to her that all of the people involved seemed to be good, long time people here and my gut told me it would be ok.
That being said, my theory of longevity on this board being a sign of a decent person has slipped a bit. I will not bash this person publically, but you know who you are, and the game you played. If you didn't want to sell the mats, you shouldn't have offered them. If you were honest about wanting more money (after maybe thinking there was more to be had) you should have been up front and I would have renegotiated.

That being said, I had an opportunity to buy a "next to new" set of Weather-tech mats from a member here. He wanted $80 so I paid immediately via paypal. A few days later came back with a note about not shipping them yet, but he would soon. Then he came back to me a week later and asked for another $33 to ship which was NOT part of the deal. I told him to ship them on my UPS account which would cost him nothing and I would take the hit on the shipping. Still no shipment? He came back another three days later and made up some garbage about UPS wanting $50 to ship under my account , and simply sent my money back. I realized at that point he was only trying to get me to send more money for the mats because he probably had the chance to sell them for a higher price. He sent me money via paypal, instead of returning it via paypal so I ended up getting $77 back for mats I paid $80 for and never received. I guess it could have been worse, I only lost a few dollars...he could have sent nothing back.

Re: Be careful who you trust

Sorry to hear that Jeff, unfortunately those people are out there everywhere. For every one good person there seems to be 30 bad ones. Glad to know you got your money back less $3 dollars. But if your like me the time spent on this situation and frustration is worth more than a few dollars. Yet again sorry to hear this from a ROC member, but every family has them just look at my cousins

Sorry to here about your ordeal NJ. It's like Dusty said there seem to be more bad than good in the world.
Sometimes our gut feelings can be swayed by this community but you still showed your better side by not revealing this person.

Jeff, I appreciate your unwillingness to disclose who's the culprit, but would you please mention your misfortune has nothing to do with the current Weathertech Floor Mat Group Buy I'm offering?

I surely hope the ratio is the inverse of that! 30:1 - good:bad.

Human nature: it only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole bunch.

Time to cull the bad apples.

But give it two days and you've got 31 bad apples.

Precisely.

NJ, I agree with you on the fact that the member selling the mats should have initially absorbed the shipping costs in order to save face with you, instead of reneging on his initial agreement.

But, what I don't agree with you is your post about not trusting another ROC member as if you were being scammed. No, he did not deliver the merchandise but then again, he did return the money back to you. I'm sure that if you advise him that you also lost 3 dollars in the process, he'll most likely return that as well. No?

Maybe the seller's spouse threw out the mats w/o telling him or maybe he just changed his mind and wanted to keep them for personal purposes. Who knows and honestly speaking, who cares? The important thing is that the money was returned back to you and no scam took place between two members from this board.

For those that are reading my post and assuming the worse, NO I was not involved in this transaction but simply voicing my opinion to this post and urging my fellow members to be prudent in how they explain their experience with another member.

BTW NJ, I still love you man!

Woah, thanks Andy? No, it wasn't you. I'm not saying at all that no one can be trusted. I am only saying not to be, as my wife jokes with me "living in la la land" when it comes to thinking the best of everyone. I trust too much and always go by my gut. I did mention that it could have been worse, I was just ranting a little. I guess I feel that everyone should be man enough to tell the truth and admit when they make a mistake. Instead of trying to BS their way through it.
