Re: Home Depot Intake

Is there anyone in the north east, Massachusetts area that could help me with a project like this? I want to do it but I am nervous about working on my own engine lol

Well not for me. Just because it's easy for you doesn't make it easy for everyone.

I bet that the people here in this thread could talk you through it. The first thing you want to do is get the material you need. Like the air filter and ABS pipe.

Re: Home Depot Intake

I saw this stuff at the auto parts store. It was pretty much pieces of different size pipes and filters to build your own intake. It was from Spectre Performance. I looked on the website but they don't have an application guide for the Ridgeline. I'm thinking if PVC piping works than this stuff will work, I just have to get the right sizes and everything. The K&N comes with a bracket...how do you do it when you make your own.

Smile Re: Home Depot Intake

I was about to start building my own PVC intake when I noticed on the pics that my intake has extra stuff on it that I didn't see on the posted pics. Lemme know if these were present and removed or what it is and what I need to do to incorporate it into the intake.

I was debating doing the junkyard thing to grab a used intake tube, then cut it in front of the additional tubing, and splice into that.

Here's a couple pics of the extra tubing that I didn't see on the original pics. Thanks for any input anyone can lend!

Re: Home Depot Intake

GM that is where the breather filter goes. You just buy a crank case breather filter to fit the metal pipe at the auto parts store when you are getting you new intake filter.

Wink Re: Home Depot Intake

So...I finally built my own home made intake kit from scratch. I have a total of $48 dollars in the project, and get right at 22mpg on the highway (@69mph). The filter is a 4" cylinder (cleanable) by Vector, and I used the Vector sleeve to attach the assembly to the throttle body. The filter is a 1100CFM or 2200CFM flow rate, I don't remember off hand...overkill either way! The middle part is the part that will make some of you laugh... it's a piece of 3" exhaust pipe that I had stretched to 4" by a muffler shop (they only charged me $5 for the pipe and stretching it). The filter kept tapping the body and the battery, so i took some 1" mild steel strap, welded it to a 3" exhaust clamp, and bolted it to the engine lift bracket so that it flexes WITH the engine. As with other builds of this nature, it is nice and smooth sounding until the V-Tech kicks in, then it's like a brass symphony! Magnaflow exhaust is also quiet and increases flow.

Hope you like the pics, they turned out better than I thought. The left one shows the bracket mounting point, the bend, and the exhaust clamp. The right one shows how well the whole thing fit.

If I get the time (maybe during spring break) my Father-in-law and I will make a professional sound recording for the whole setup...he has the equipment.
