Low cost "Scan Gauge"

Well, being someone who doesn't like buying off the internet, I had a problem trying to find some kind of scan gauge.
I guess I was rewarded for being paranoid. Looking through a sale flyer for a local store I saw this: http://www.auteltech.com/4in1.htm
It was $149.99 reg. on sale for $78.99 at Princess Auto (Canada). Looks like it does everything the scan gauge does! Just put it in the truck last night and did the basic setup without the engine running, in a few minutes I'll go fillup the tank and see how it does on the road.
Now I have to find a place to mount it.
Here are a few pics to give you a size perspective.

Re: Low cost "Scan Gauge"

Nice find Dan...and at a good price!

Autel makes pretty good code readers as well. I recently purchased their VAG 405 VW/Audi scanner & code reader for my son's '03 Jetta. It also works on any vehicle that's OBD-II compliant.

Re: Low cost "Scan Gauge"

Thanks Andy, I had never heard of Autel before yesterday!
As for the price, I loved it! Princess Auto also has a great return policy so even if it didn't work as I had hoped I had nothing to lose.
Just figured I would show our fellow ROC's who might want one. The sale is on from Nov. 17th to the 29th I believe.

Re: Low cost "Scan Gauge"

Sorry but I am not familiar with these devices and this question may be silly.

So, all you do is plug it to the OBDII connector and leave it there, run the phone wire to the display screen and select the readings to get the informantion you want? That simple?

Pretty much that simple, yes. There is some basic setup when you install it, engine size, fuel tank size, fuel, very easy. You can also set which screen you want to come up when the engine is started.
Sorry for the late reply, haven't been here in a few days.

Re: Low cost "Scan Gauge"

Update: Have been using the Maxitrip all week back and forth to work. I've already altered my route because I can see that even though I travel a longer distance to work now I'm using less gas (litres per trip) because of a more steady speed.
Not sure about some of the other gauges as it's telling me a can go another 430 kms till empty and I'm at a little over 1/2 tank left. I've gone 190 kms since the fill, I normally get ~500 kms in the city. I'm still on my first tank of gas with the Maxitrip so I may need to calibrate it on my second fill.

Re: Low cost "Scan Gauge"

I have used the original scangauge in my small class c motorhome. When they came out with the scangauge II, I bought one because of the transmission temperature function. It's very useful because the MH doesn't have a tach or the trip and tank computer . My new 2009 Ridgeline has the tach and trip and tank features, but is missing a few features like the actual transmission temperature, gallons of fuel used. I don't see the need to move it over from the MH.
I'm only a 1/3 of the way thru my second tank and noticed that it shows 200 miles left of fuel. I am averaging 18.0 mpg and have gone 100 miles. With a 21 gallon tank, shouldn't I have 278 miles of fuel left? I did reset it when I refueled. Maybe I should move the scangauge over?

Re: Low cost "Scan Gauge"

Update II: 2nd fillup with the Maxitrip. Had to adjust the litres used by +21.5%, it said I had used ~50 litres when in fact the total was 60.3 litres. I hope this will be a one time adjustment.
The average l/hundred Km was only slightly off. It showed me 13.6 and I calculated 14.2 for a difference of less than 1 imp. mpg.
I'm happy with this new "toy". It's about as precise as I expected it to be for the price I paid.
As I said before, if it saves me a few buck in gas along the way, all the better.

I have SGII and didn`t know about transmission temp. Can you help me? Where I can find it. Is there actually a temp sensor on tranny?

I keep my SG on trip mode and bored to death with the same 17.5MPG on the screen for the last 6 month.
