Tailgate lock??

Why didnt honda make the tailgate lock with all the doors?
I have the OEM tonneau cover and the lock on that is a joke. It seems so simple to make that door lock with the others---Can't honda fix it? Or make it so we can have it modified?

Re: Tailgate lock??

They could but don't like their customer enough to do so as it would add to their cost. Would their customers love to have it added to the incoice? Most likely, but that would mean they would actually listen to their customers and that appears to be against the companie's policy.

Honda has never listened to their customers, so I don't anticipate them reconsidering that practice anytime soon. Until then we'll have to stick with cheap aftermarket locks.

Re: Tailgate lock??

You can modify it yourself for about $10. Search on 'electric tailgate lock'.
The easy way is spending some $60 on a Pop and Lock which is fairly easy to install. Not very robust, totally manual, but does the job.
The electric, tied in with door/trunk locking system is the best way to go, just more work on your part.
BTW, many pickups have no lock at all for the tailgate.

I have done both to mine - Pop 'n lock WITH the $10 electric lock. I can use either a key or the car. The option for both is nice... and it was not that hard to do. Search the forum and you will find.

I was planning to add the electric and keep the PandL myself. No reason it can't be done. I guess the key lock would be a backup if you had an electrical problem, like a dead battery, and needed to get in the trunk...

Right ...the tonneau cover lock is not secure and has to be aligned all of the time.....best configuration I found was an electronic Dynolock that works with the FOB......

Re: Tailgate lock??

A knife can easily slice through most soft tonneau cover, so a tailgate lock wouldn't do much in that area. I guess though for ten bucks, you can't go wrong..

Several friends have owned Jeeps and convertibles and they usually leave the doors unlocked. Logic=If the doors are unlocked your stuff may get stolen. If your doors are locked your stuff may get stolen AND your top ruined.

Yes, but they will not be able to jimmy the trunk (if they know about it) with the tailgate locked. If you are talking strictly about the trunk bed, it will always be vulnerable if someone wants in there bad enough.

Yeah, I was talking about the bed as a whole. I guess you guys are all talking about the trunk which I understand how locking the tailgate would prevent breaking into.

Isn't the lock also to prevent someone from stealing the tailgate??
