composite decking

I started tearing out my old deck because the knob that put it in installed it wrong(no spacing) and the joists rotted out. I want to replace it with something that I won't have to keep painting so my question is who makes the best composite decking? I've got a menards and lowes in my area, no home depot. I want something that I can walk on barefooted in the summer so if the thing gets insanely hot, I don't want it....

Re: composite decking

Lowes sells some good one, I am not sure about the heat being a plastic rubber material it probably gets warmer than wood. Another issue is being more slippery than wood when wet or not cleaned for long time.

I would go to lowes and figure out the manufacturer and contact them or go to their site for more information.

Re: composite decking

I have learned this about composite decking.
You get what you pay for and there are worlds of differences between the good and the bad.

Re: composite decking

My sister has Trex at her house. It's 10 years old now -- it has turned a little silver with age, but still looks great - no splintering, no warping.

It does get warm enough to where you don't want to be on it for long in bare feet, but this is coastal SC, and it does get warm there. Wear a pair of flip-flops and you're fine.

The joists underneath (pressure-treated) will likely need replacing before the decking does.

Re: composite decking

I'd be curious to know what the national parks use. That has to be some tough stuff to stand up to all the traffic and weather exposure.

Re: composite decking

Have used Trex, excellent product. Spacing is critical. Use SS screws.

Re: composite decking

Slight derail, does anyone know if there's a "synthetic wood" (Hardiplank, Trex) that comes in 2x6 size? We're getting new garage doors and I need to replace the trim around the doors (non-structural). Would like to replace the rotted out 2x6s with something that won't rot.

Roak

On edit: Should have Googled a bit longer: http://www.lowes.com/pd_262667-711-0...ductId=3221113

Any other options?
