The battery terminal protector from NAPA that we use at work is red.

Re: 07 RT - Sometimes doesn't start on first crank
yup the red is the protectant.. it is fine..
note when you try to start it and it will not turn over.. see if the key lights up on the dash... many times i had this happen and sometimes i think the key does not match the anti theft.. one time it went like 5 x... i removed key and turned it over.. fired right up.. you may see a flashing key on dash if it does not sense it |

Re: 07 RT - Sometimes doesn't start on first crank
Thanks for the clarification. I thought that's what it might be.

Re: 07 RT - Sometimes doesn't start on first crank
I had 7 straight successful starts before it happened again today
![]() I might change the battery. It's 3 years old, which is quite a long time for an Arizona car. Maybe it'll help? |

Re: 07 RT - Sometimes doesn't start on first crank
Chasing erratic failures like that can be extremely frustrating. Please follow up if/when you find the culprit and let us know what it is.

Re: 07 RT - Sometimes doesn't start on first crank
Good voltage does not necessarily make a good battery. Put a load on it and if it drops too much, it's baaad (and that's not good).
![]() When you say it doesn't start, does that mean it turned over but wouldn't catch? Or that it wouldn't even spin the engine? |

I'll get the battery tested. When this problem happens...there is no noise made. The truck isn't even trying to turn over. The only thing that happens is the instrument lights on the dash light up. |
