New owner question ECU upgrade
I just purchased a 2010 RTL w/ 20,700 mi. Would like to make some minor upgrades. I've seen the ads for a $70.00 ecu modification. Has anyone done any mods along this line?
Thanks |

If you are talking about the $69 'chips' save your money! If it's true good to be true...

Re: New owner question ECU upgrade
Howdy, and welcome to the ROC. This is a frequent question. Short answer: no. The Ridgeline is about as tweaked as it's going to get from the factory, until you get into some rare, experimental and expensive upgrades. If you want an extra 10HP, use premium fuel.

Re: New owner question ECU upgrade
I have installed "chips" in Honda civics before and had good luck. They were successful in removing the speed and RPM limiters, and a slight gain in power. These required un-soldering a board from the ECM and soldering in a new chip along with a few (what appeared to be random positioned) resistors. These were on 92 and 98 model cars though....I'm sure ECMs have become much more complicated since then.

Re: New owner question ECU upgrade
I know the kind of tuning you are talking about, and yes, on modern vehicles you would be shooting in the dark to make similar changes, not to mention the warranty issues if things go south.

Re: New owner question ECU upgrade
Success with chipping in other models is not a precedent for success in the Ridgeline. Here is a previous (one of many) threads on the topic, with ensuing discussion.

Re: New owner question ECU upgrade
Thanks for the reply's. It looks like this topic has been well discussed. It looks like my only chips will be Frito's.
