Android HU in place of Factory HU question?
I have been looking around getting ideas on how to replace the factory stereo HU with a tablet, but then i ran across this website that has everything I was thinking about doing all in a nice kit. It looks like you just plug and play, not really sure yet. I was wondering if anyone has seen this or have installed this unit, and how does it work?

I was thinking of doing the same with a Nexus 7 before I just bit the bullet for my Pioneer unit. It's still something I'm thinking of doing in my future installs.

Re: Android HU in place of Factory HU question?
I've seen a couple commercial HU's that run android for an OS. Below is an example. You will need an android device with a 3g/4g connection to get the most out of it.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_333ASTR....html?tp=20212 You can also run a full blown PC in your truck. These guys have been around for a long time and have a great forum with a ton of info. http://store.mp3car.com/ The PC option will be more expensive in the long run, but will also provide alot of really cool options you won't be able to find on any commercial HU. Things like OBDII integration, sensors, and microcontrollers. Last edited by Tribble; 01-17-2013 at 05:27 AM. |

Re: Android HU in place of Factory HU question?
I've learned over the years that a lot of these low-end products just don't perform well, and/or stop working, and/or have many many glitches. They just don't go through the same Q.A. as the brand name stuff. This is more of a "don't expect it to actually work 100%" msg.

Too bad they don't stretch the screen to a 7" minimum, and run all the buttons at the bottom & top instead of both sides taking up valuable widescrenn space.

Re: Android HU in place of Factory HU question?
Is anyone brave enough to order one of these? I wish someone else more well known would come out with something like this.
