Re: Spongy Brake Pedal
I left out the word 'not' by mistake. Brake feel would not be in the plus column.

Re: Spongy Brake Pedal
The FIX for spongy brakes.. Remove the caliper and check the two caliper slider pins inside the small accordion rubber boots on the caliper. Check by sliding each one in and out they should move easily and freely. If they do not, Remove each pin by pulling it straight out of the caliper by rotating it back and forth, (don't pull directly on rubber boot) it will come out with the pin. You will usually find that one or both of the pins is starting to corrode. Use a small wire brush or Dremel tool etc. remove the rust and corrosion re grease and reassemble.
Note: You will also notice if one of the pins is starting to corrode the brake pad will be worn lopsided instead of straight against the rotor.

Re: Spongy Brake Pedal
My 06 with 70k is exactly the same. Very soft first press. Firms up after that. No problem stopping.

Re: Spongy Brake Pedal
Had the same issue. Installed new Hawk front brake pads last weekend, and the firm pedal is back. Not claiming that the Hawk pads are betterr than OEM, just that replacing worn pads (about 30% life left) took care of the issue for me. Rears were replaced about 6 months ago.
YMMV... Last edited by mbintx; 02-14-2013 at 01:26 PM. |
